I have an 11 year old son who is obese. He also has OCD and is on Prozac for that. We tried therapy through a psychologist for 2 years before we finally decided to try the medication approach. The medicine has helped him tremendously. He has always had a weight issue and year after year he gains more and more weight. The Prozac is not helping with his weight issue. His weight issue stems from overeating and constantly wanting to eat. It is not junk food, he eats healthy foods just way too much. We can keep nothing that even resembles junk food in the house. If I buy yogurt, he'll sneak and eat 6 a day in addition to regular meals and snacks. He does the same thing with fruit, peanut butter, granola bars, etc... He also constantly has things in his mouth and chews them until they are destroyed such as pencils, straws, his fingernails, etc. We have been through weight programs such as Family Weight Watchers and Why Weight. This has not helped at all because it is not the type of food that he eats it is the quantity and obsession with food and chewing things. I am looking for help from a doctor who may have encountered this problem before. Does anyone know of a doctor like this in the Tampabay area?
