Does Zoloft cause much weight gain?

by animallover309, Dec 19, 2008 10:38AM
Hi, I am 16 years old and I have had an anxiety disorder for most of my life. For the past couple of years, I have been off all medications and was perfectly fine. During that time, I started dieting and lost about 80 pounds;I eat very heathly now and do not touch any cookies, cake, etc... During this past summer my anxiey sadly came back and it hit hard. I did not know what to do beacuse I was having so many racing/disturbing thoughts that were triggering my anxiety. I started going back to my theripist to talk with her and that has been helping, but school was still a big issue. I was too the point where i could not handle the thoughts/anxiety anymore, so I was perscribed 10mg of Paxil by my doctor. I was very leary about taking the medication because I didn't want to gain the weight back, but everyone kept telling me that I wouldn't gain that much. I have been on Paxil for about 3 months and have gained 10 pounds in each of those months. My appitite has definetly increased, but i eat all the right things and do sit
-ups and push-ups every other night...mostly. I have been feeling so much better, but i can't stand to gain anymore weight, and i still have the disturbing thoughts(though not as strong as they used to be), so my doctor is switching me to Zoloft. He says it is one of the SSRI's that is least prone to cause weight gain and will help with the thoughts and anxiety. I was wondering, when i start taking Zoloft in a couple of days, if it will help me stay the same weight that i am at now or make me gain even more. If i do gain weight, what are some things i can do to prevent any further weight gain. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my question.
