Plateaued with Phen - other advice?

by TeeDee3, Jun 04, 2007 12:00AM
I started phentermine 37.5mg around 4/25, and about 2 weeks later I added 5-HTP, B-12 spots, and CLA Tonalin.  So far I've lost about 14lbs and lost a few inches, but I haven't seen the scale move in over a week and I'm getting discouraged.

I know Phen can start to lose its effectiveness after a few weeks, so I decided today to take a few day break even though it is still suppressing my appetite, I figure it has to factor in on the sluggish scale.  I haven't changed my diet or activity level since starting so I know that's not it.

I also find that side effects don't really affect me - I don't know if this is playing a role, either.  Some people reported crazy side effects when taking the 5-HTP but I had none of that (although I do get a little nauseous if I don't eat within a half hour of taking it) and phen has it's own list of side effects, none of which I have experienced.

I've read on other boards that people substitute other OTC diet pills during their phen break to keep the weight loss going while the body "forgets" about the phen, and was wondering if anyone could offer some tips on effective pills?  I need to lose about 55-60 more lbs.

Thanks in advance :)

Hello.  I am also on phentermine and B12.  I have also plateaued.  From everything that I read, I think it is from keeping the same diet.  All of the suggestions that I hear for this is to simply change your diet for a week and then return to what you have been doing.  It has been really frustrating.  I did so well in the beginning.  I have not had any side effect either.  I'm not sure if your body gets use to the phentermine or not.  For me, it has really helped with the cravings.  That's a big plus.  I still feel a little hungry, but not so bad.  I wish you luck!

It happened to me too. It is great initially. If you stop it for a little while (week or so), it will work again like it did in the beginning, I heard that taking 5HTP (an amino acid supplement found at health food stores) makes it work better longer, but I tried this for two days and I hated the side effects. I had horrible dreams. I read that "vivid nightmares" can be a side effect. It was enough for me to not take it again.
