Rapid weight loss with no explaination

by quin, Sep 14, 2005 12:00AM
Hi I am a 20 yr old female and over the last couple weeks i have noticed that i have been loosing a considerable amount of weight. I lost 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks. Im 5'-5" and now weight 125 compared to a couple weeks ago when i weighed around 130-129.  I have also felt weak, tired, cold, dizzy at times and wake in the night from pins and needles in my arms. Im not overactive but work out a couple times a week when i have time. I have also been eating about the same amount of food i usually do. I cant quite figure it out. It just seems that everytime i step on the scale my weight keeps dropping. I have an appointment with a doctor in a few weeks to run some test but i was wondering if anyone had any advice or experience with these problems to help me figure out what it may be so i have a better idea what to do. I also found a lump in my breast and was wondering if maybe that had someting to do with it. Altho, my doctor assured me it may not be serious but i have a biopsy scheduled later on this week. Any advice or insight anyone has would be appreciated.
Thanks for listening

Quin

Your Dr. will be able to diagnose you.  Any suggestions on here will be merely speculative.

i had a similar issue, in h.s. i was about 180 and then in my first year of college i dropped to 155 in about two months w/o trying. i figured it was over due baby fat melting away or it was bc i was working two jobs and going to school full time. i to felt tired, weak, and sometimes dizzy, but i figured it was because of my packed schedule... til this day i dont know if it was anything "important".

Hi, not sure about the lump in your breast, but the symptoms you are experiencing could be thyroid related, lots of similiar symptoms.  Go on the web and check out hyperthyroidism and see what symptoms might apply to you.  Have you dr, do a thyroid panel, you might jump on the thyroid forum on medhelp, and check it out, Thyroid symptoms can mimick other causes naturally, but in the same aspect,  thyroid disease is often misdiagnosed, make sure that you get your thyroid checked and than go from there, just a suggestion, not a dr.  Good luck

It could by overactive thyroid.  It could also be diabetes.  Rapid weight loss along with some of the other symptoms you mentioned are classic signs of diabetes.  This is merely a suggestion, please follow up with your doctor.

quin,

GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR, unless you have a PHD in medicine DO NOT try to self diagnosis.  Please Take Care of yourself. God gives us but only one life here on earth Don't take chances with it..
