Topamax and weight loss

My doctor (psychiatrist) just prescribed me Topamax in the hopes of losing weight and mood stabilization.  I've only been on it for 2 days at 25mg and will double the dose in 2 weeks.  I have immediately noticed a substantial decrease in my appetite.  I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with Topamax and if so what was their experience.  I realize everyone reacts differently, but I'm curious as to a typical weight loss and side effects.  I hear the side effects can be pretty severe sometimes.  Thanks!

I lost 25 pounds on Topamax.  I lost it fairly quickly, but it is now 3 years later and that side effect has worn off.  I have put back on some of the weight ( about 10 pounds) but that was good because I started to look a little anorexic.

I had to stop taking the Topamax a few months ago and I am ready to start taking again.  I am hoping that the decrease in appetite will happen again, but only to keep me from gaining more weight.

I really didn't experience any severe side effects... I had some tingling in my hands and feet and I have some trouble with thinking of the word I want to say.  It is a little frustrating, but the loss of weight and the decrease in migraines is well worth it.

Thanks for the feedback.  25lbs would be great.  I also have problems with migraines so I'm hoping to benefit for them also.  If you stayed on it for 3 years it must have worked pretty good for you!  I'm hoping I don't have any severe side effects either.  I've read where stuff, especially sodas start to taste different, did you experience that? Sorry to bug you with so many questions, I'm just real curious!

I'm starting Topamax in two days for bad migraines. I'm a little worried about some of the side effects, however I'm quite excited about the weight loss. I could stand to lose about 50 lbs. I know it's possible I will not lose weight but a girl can dream. :) I'm curious to hear other peoples weight loss stories on Topamax. also any other side effects noted. Thanks!
