Whats the real deal on Colon Cleansing

by mother2four, Sep 18, 2006 12:00AM
Whats the real deal on colon cleansing.  I see, hear and read alot about this subject but have never known anyone who has done it.  What variations are there and how safe are they really.  People claim you can loose up to 25lbs in a week.  Theres alot of controversary from gaestro doctors (not re assuring) who do you believe?  The idea of dropping the promised minimum 5lbs in a week is tempting... is it too good to be true????

I don't know either but I'm about to find out. I listened to all the controversy on both sides and didn't really worry about it as long as I was losing weight without it but now that I have hit a plateau - I haven't lost anything in a month - I started thinking more about it. I have a friend that I really trust for health advice and she said that they are safe as long as you don't use them often, maybe just once or twice a year. In fact she said it is a good and healthy thing to cleanse your body now and then.

She recommended a product called Cleanse Smart and I have already bought it, but she also recommended waiting till the weekend to start it in case I was in the bathroom a lot the first few days! Then I couldn't start this weekend because of my period so I'll start it next weekend. I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks kk2.  I posted the same question on the womans forum and got alot of different kinds of feedback, mostly negative.  Doctor HHH wasnt very informative just said it was "silly",  crazy answer on a medical forum, not very professional.  You may find it interesting to read  the thread.  Yes please let me know how you get on. I havent decided yet.

well, it looks like I won't be the colon cleansing guinea pig after all. I opened up the package last weekend to get started and read the information inside and it said if you take medication to consult your doctor. It turns out it can absorb your medication and expel it before it has a chance to do what its supposed to. I take medication to control seizures and believe me, whatever weight loss I might have gotten from the colon cleanse would not be worth it if I had to start having seizures again. Of course they also had to throw in, "it is not intended for weight loss, only to cleanse and detoxify the body. To lose weight you should eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly." Duh! Thank you very much, I'm doing that already! Anyway, just wanted to post what I had learned.

It seems to me that if cleansing your colon is a healthy thing to do, that you'd hear of doctors recommending it.  I see TV commercials etc but I've never heard of a doctor suggesting it to a patient.  But maybe I'm wrong...I've just never heard of it though. I'd imagine that any weight loss from it would be pretty temporary.

I have had colon cleaning done by a professional, not from a box or a pill.  These gimmicks can be unhealthy and have harsh stimulants that casue cramping and other side effect.  I am not a medical doctor, just someone speaking from experieince.  Colonics are designed to get rid of impacted fecal matter in your colon. You want this done so that your colon is healthy and functions properly.  In no way shape or form have I ever lost any weight whatsoever from having colonics. I did however feel less bloated and started having regular bowels movements which, can in the long run aid in weight loss.  If your body is working properly such as having a bowel movement 3 times a day then the rest of your body can work and do its jobs properly too!

I read the book Miricle cure and it recomends having 15colonics in 15 days to lose 20lbs.  I talked with the doctor who administers my colonics and she said this was completely unobtainable.  Colonics are recommed 4 times a year. And it is simply to help proper bowel function.  Now, there are some people I know who suffer from conditions such as IBS and she did lose a few pounds but, she also for a year or so probably only had 4 bowels movements.  So the fact that all of the impacted matter was removed from her colon was a huge relief to her and to her system.

I do however reccomend having them. I feel better after I have one, light and less bloateed and my skin clears up and I have more energy.  I cannot sat that all will have these results but, I know I get them 4 times a year.

Hope this helps!

I have been incorporating a colon cleanse routine for several years now and it is an excellent product. I use a program called colonix by DrNatura. When I did my first program I lost 10 lbs and that is not body fat but the build up in the colon. It really has helped me with a lot of health ailments that I suffered under. I had regular bm, my hemorrhoids cleared, my candida is non exsistant now and the list goes on. I believe that cleansing the colon on a regular basis, once or twice a year, is healthy and necessary given the loss of quality in foods today and all the chemicals added. It is necessary to maintain good health. Would like to hear what you decided to use and how it has helped you.

It truly is one of those 'if it works for you, then its ok" deals.

Personally, a yearly cleansing is all thats in order for me. I take Probiotics after surgerys and stuff, so I dont need that candi-cleanse. My liver never malfunctioned, so I am not messing with it. ( aint broke, dont fix it) and as far as colon cleansing goes...Prune Juice does wonders - AND - it wont screw w/ your meds. I think getting caught up in hype is overrated. but thats just my opinion.

Now, if you asked my family members who are total freaks about this stuff, they do all the cleansings twice a year. And I can tell you they are no more skinny or healthier than I am. so there ya go.

good, bad, ugly. Its all there for the pickin. lol

I have had a colonics and in that process I lost 71bs, but it wasn't weight it was fecal matter much different becuase I felt great afterwards. Depending on who you are and what;s going on with your body if you are like me and like bread and don't have regualr BM. then this may work for you. this however is in addition to eating right, and working out.  Your abdominal area is what it is cleanising because that is where your colon is located. Doctors will not recommend it becuase they make money off of you being on medication and having to be treated by them. Anyhow. read on it and decide for your self .. No more than 2 treatments at a time is recommended and it's about what will be best for you.

COLON CLEANSING IS REALLY GREAT & BENIFICAL.  I WOULD NOT DO IT MORE THAN TWICE A YEAR.
THE COLONICS THAT KT'S BOOK REFERS TO IN PHASE ONE, 15 IN 30 DAYS EVERY OTHER DAY IS NOTHING MORE THAN AN  ALL NATURAL ENEMA.(HIGH ENEMA).
THIS IS HOW I INTERPRETED IT. THE COLON CLEANSE  IS GREAT FOR DETOXIN THE BODY AND IF YOU LOSE WEIGHT (YOU WILL) THEN THATS AN ADDED BENIFET.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT OTHERS HAVE DONE. ?15 IN 30 DAYS?

I use a product called "The Elephant"  it says it is "a colonic in a bottle"  It worked very well for me. I also use a colon cleanse from the same company for maintance. I had a colonic after taking it ( The Elephant) and the Colon Hydro Therapist told me that her clients rarely take as much water in on the first session.  I just recentally had a Colon test at my Health care proviers and the Nurse  there was very surprised as to how clean and healthy my colon was.

Colon cleanses and colonis should never be used as a weight  loss, when you are inpacted you will lose fecal matter Which will cause weight loss. But it should be done to assist in aiding  the diegstive system to help in the weight loss process, after you Change your eating habits.

How often do you use the cleanse?  I have been told 4 times a year and twice a year.  Also,
how often do you use colonics?
