Why do some people gain/lose on Antidepressants?

by Jenlynne, Dec 02, 2005 12:00AM
Why do some people lose whilst taking antidepressants while others gain?  Does it have to do with body weight?

And for those who gain, is it because they ate more due to increased appetite?  Basically, do the weight changes correlate between your BMI or your appetite changes or can you just put on weight without any changes in your diet?

Sorry if this is confusing.  I'm debating whether or not to start Effexor but i'm scared of the weight gain.

I have never gained on any antidepressants.  I did however lose weight on celexa.  I went from 100pds at 5'2 to 85pds in 2 weeks.  It was not at all a healthy way to lose weight and i was taken off celexa.  Everyone is different though.  Hope this helps.
