fat, disgusted, sad, tired, and need SOMETHING...

by melitys, Feb 17, 2006 12:00AM
okay so i am the mother of four children and have been fighting w/ my weight my whole life...i am pretty sure that my overeating comes from stress...

i don't know what to do about my appetite-i am always hungry...i tried the atkins diet and had to go off because of pregnancy and then i gained a lot of weight and developed gestational diabetes.  the baby is fine by the way- for you mothers who may be reading this.

i have a treadmill and a weight machine and they pretty much stare me down because i am so tired after working and fixing supper and taking care of the kids that i don't have the energy to do anything with them.

i am in greenville, sc, and have just moved here-don't know anyone, and it is quite depressing not to have a workout partner and not to know what is wrong with myself...

i thought about diet pills that i could buy from the store but according to the internet none of these work.  i have a read several entries about this "b-12" shot...at this point i am willing to try anything.  is this the same b-12 that you can buy in a pill form from the store?  are there any of you from this area that knows a good doctor for my problem?  i am already on wellbutrin for a muscle spasm in my back, and while it really helps, it doesn't really help my appetite.

anyone out there feel like me?  (i have a supportive husband-but he has never had to worry about weight problems-if anything, he has been trying to gain some his whole life...i told him if i could lose it maybe he could find it!)help please-i will take any advice at this point.

Hi,

Hey it is hard losing weight.  I am taking phentermine and will get a b-12 shot here soon.  I take half a pill in the morning and the second half in the afternoon.  I have high blood pressure that is controlled and my doctor said that this is the best way for me to take the phen so that my blood pressure would not go up and so far it is working out great. With the phen I am not hungry but I force myself to eat, high protein meals.  You may want to look into taking phentermine.  There are some posters on this board who are from your area and hopefully they will reply back to you soon.  take care.

Hi, sorry to hear about your problem, i to suffered from weight problems, which also made me feel quite depressed, but after cutting out some of the fats from my diet;
milk
cheese
butter
or anything which is usual considered high in fats, i could eat as much as i like and often as i liked, such foods as fruit, pasta, vegetables, potatoes (jacket potatoes + beans for example) you will find the weight will come off quite quickly, i know this is easier said than done. but after a couple of weeks you stop craving the fatty foods, and the other stuff (non fatty foods)

i wish you well and please have a go at this, it really does work without starving yourself.

Hi Dear

Please try things without shots and pills

I did use the slimquick pill to kick start myself simply because I have lost 40 pounds 3 times in the past.

I hit 29/30 and my body just freaked out.  Homestly, i tried different pills hoping that it would help me but it doesn't.  It wears off because we become dependent in our minds that the pill is doing the work.

I have always exercised and my body needed a different boost.  The slimquick workout changed my body.

i eat 5 to 6 small meals aday and do interval walking/running for 45 minutes.  I'm going to start weight training to get a lean look not build my muscles.  I'm pretty short and woudl like to look a little longer.

But It's very difficult to lose weight.  It took me 2 years to get 40 pounds off the right way.

Remember slow weight loss allows our bodies to adjust and gives our body time to adjust to a new metabolic rate - which is what happens when we hit a plateau in weight loss.

I'm trying right now to lose with two children, being a wife and running my own in home business.  We have to put ourselves first and stop sacrificing ourselves, for our families sakes!

Good luck - you can do it.

Thanks so much for your replies guys.  It is so much easier to TRY knowing that there are other women out there that struggle and continue to struggle with their weight and the same feelings that I have.

Maybe I can try to cut some of the fat out of my diet.  I really like to eat cereal and peanut butter though, so this may be hard going at first.

I know about hitting close to 30 and my body going crazy!  This is the first time after having a child that I have not at least lost a few pounds and been able to fit back in my pre-pregnancy clothes...I am 28 now...

I wonder if the high protein diet will help in having my appetite go down?  I did look at some pills today at the Walmart close to home...man have you seen those prices!?!?!?
I finally gave up, with the hopes in seeing a dr soon to get help.

by diggers, Feb 21, 2006 12:00AM
The prices of pills is ourtrages.  I'm only doing them until Easter is hopes that they helped me regain some control.  I do feel better eating more often and exercising.  You know it's working when you can reach the end of your workourt feeling great and knowing it's time to step it up the next notch.

You know it's hard cutting fat out of our systems.  But try this.  Your peanut butter:  Look at the serving amount and actually spoon it out. It's pathetic the amount of fat and calories that fit on the spoon.  You could eat a lot more of something else.  It will start to sicken you when you realize what you're eating.  I actually can not eat at a McDonald, Taco Bell or Burger king.  don't get me wrong I love a good Big and TAsty but I feel absolutely sick to my stomach because my body doesn't want it anymore.

If you want peanut butter try this.  The tast of pb goes a long way.  have some on bread but spread it very thin.  It's great for protein but calorie wise it's bad.

I am a carb lover!  I love cereal but soon after i feel hungry.  It's the sugar in it.  Try eggs with one slice of whole wheat bread.  THe eggs I use are 1 yolk and 3 egg whites.

It actually keeps you full.  Drink lots of water and believe me I have been waterlogged.  So go for the sugarfree nestea's.  No calories, no sugar and more interesting than water.

I also found that upping my protein (not adding meat mind you) really made me crave dairy but I didn't want to eat cheese so you may want to find a really good supplement vitamin.

Let's keep talking.  I'm still afraid to get on the scale because that one moment can ruin my day or week.

Good luck - we can all do this.  Remember we all cheat... so don't believe everything you see or read.  There's no way I can pass up a great chocolate cake!

by diggers, Feb 22, 2006 12:00AM
Great News on the weight loss!  I myself lost another pound this week and I tell you even that one pound can make your day.

I have my treadmill in front of our TV downstairs.  I treat myself to a new purchase of a movie or concert of an artist I like.  I spefically only watch them when I'm working out.

Watching the clock makes it terrible... The tv works!

I find that when I lose weight i tend to slip out of my diet for a reward but i have to stop doing that!  We always have to have a goal or else the reward is empty.

keep it going girls.

by Verbalconquest, Feb 23, 2006 12:00AM
Hi everybody!

I feel like we are relatives-related to the weight pressure and the struggle of weight loss.  I too am a mother of 4 and have struggled with weight most of my life.  The subject of this thread really hit home. I have been Fat and FATTER, DISGUSTED, FRUSTRATED, and near HOPELESS.  Depression was my companion.

I remember being in the gym a while back.  For the first time, I started doing Aerobics, in a room full of thin chicks!  You never feel how FAT you really are until you are in a room with thin athletic women whose bodies look like it's peeled to perfection.  Not to mention, the walled mirror forcing you to see the whole YOU!  At home, it's easy to see from waist up!  But in an aerobic room, you see EVERYTHING!!!  Oh my God-- I was devastated.  But thankfully a few more thick pretty girls came in and before long we all just meshed together in the group. Everybody even the peeled perfection and the plump and needy came together for a beautiful energy.

Yes, I am still fat, if you were wondering.  During the exercise frenzy, (I was a exercise junkie) I ended up hurting my back.  Well, that put me out of the gym for about a year.  Guess what-- Fatness came back with a vengeance!  What could I do?  I couldn't walk around the frig'n grocery store.  Talk about hopeless and fat!

In December, my hairdresser told me about a place in Concord, NC that gave shots for weight loss.  Well, I thought to myself, "I've tried everything-- why not look into this!"  I called the Copperfield Wellness and Weight Control.  I started the program 3 weeks ago.  I have caught hellllooo these first weeks.  Getting back into the fitness grind is rough, but I am trying.  I figure, God'll have mercy on me and bless my striving efforts.  heee heeeee...  It seems to be doing something.  But it really takes eating high protein and watching carbs.  Understand... I love cereal (corn flakes with lots of sugar) and Reeses Peanut butter!!  So curtailing that has been a struggle.  But I am doing pretty good. I live in SC and I would like to keep in touch with each of you.  Please contact me at ***@****.

Keep in touch and keep up the GOOD WORK! You can do it!  Do something– it’s better than nothing.

I know exactly how you feel. I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago, then I was 145lbs. and a size 7. Now, I am 205lbs. and size 14-16. I have been trying everything under the sun to lose weight with no success, its tough. Keep your chin up, judge yourself for what you have inside, not out.

by Janet Yeo, Feb 24, 2006 12:00AM
Can try Xenical or Reductil

Reductil not for ppl with depression though

by melitys, Feb 25, 2006 12:00AM
This is an awesome support group.  I wish I had found out about this site sooner...

I am really interested in those shots because the success stories seem to be everywhere now that I know what it is...

Thanx you guys, for all your comments.  I will be back to write more later.  (So busy with all the kids!)

by melitys, Feb 25, 2006 12:00AM
Okay, I am back for a few more minutes.

One of you said you were from SC?  Where? Are you anywhere close?  And why are you going to a dr all the way in Asheville (is that right or was it Concord? ) But either way, are you going there because there are none here?

I read in one of the other comments that if my dr tells me to eat healthy and keep trying, or something like that, I should try to find a new dr.  I am so glad that someone else feels that way.  I did ask my ob dr after my last check up what could I do because I was so depressed about my weight, and that is exactly what she said, with a smile "try diet and exercise."  Like she has never had to deal with these type problems before...I just didn't know what to say to her to make her understand..maybe i just don't know what to do as far as my diet and exercise goes.  What is the best for the weightloss and figure that I want to achieve?

Anyways, I read one of you guys had replied with ways to cut down on fat in my diet.  Thank you very much, I looked at the label for my pb, and almost CRIED!  And I know exactly how you feel about the cereal.  It is not very high in fat, but the sugar is outrageous and I don't know what to do to stop wanting it...then I tried the poptarts and really shouldn't have because I am really addicted to chocolate and the sugar in them is very comparable to cereal and I am very hungry afterwards also.  How about the craving dairy?  You said something about trying a supplement-what kind exactly, like a multivitamin or a specific one?

Does anyone know how many fat grams I am supposed to have per day for a weightloss goal?  I really have no idea how many I am supposed to have...

by melitys, Feb 27, 2006 12:00AM
hey karibritt- boy you have good comments...

11 pounds already!  yep- that is exactly what i keep thinking about too, by the way.  i saw a girl over a year ago who was huge- bigger than me at the time- then when i saw her again at thanksgiving i couldn't believe my eyes- i had to turn around and do a double take- she was gorgeous- well, you know, her figure and i felt terrible and still feel terrible everytime i think about it.  i hate running into her because i just feel like she looks at me and thinks boy she's gotten big...i had asked her a one point what she was doing- the only comment i got was that she walks a mile every morning.  i wonder if that is what did it for her?

i don't know about the 40 grams either.  i am currently looking for a dr somewhere around here. hopefully the dr i get to go to can either direct me to help or give me some.  as for watching my proportion sizes- this is no good for me.  i can't help myself for some reason...i am always hungry...at one point and quite a few times since, i have been anemic- i have begun to wonder if that is what i am craving- something that can fix this problem in my body- and is that why i keep eating things and nothing seems to cure my hunger?

today my husband put a shelf right next to my treadmill with movies and a portable vcr right in the front of it- and even mounted a fan on the wall! how sweet of him- he found what i had written in here and didn't realize (i guess) how big a problem my weight is for me (inside, you know> self esteem and all that) hopefully now i can get myself going...

by Verbalconquest, Feb 27, 2006 12:00AM
Hi there! I hope you are well. I went to my 1 month follow up appointment today for the hcg injections and weight loss program. <drum roll please........> I lost 11 lbs. They also took my measurements again. Here’s my results– 3 ˝ inches from my waist, 1 ˝ inches in my chest,1 ˝ inches in my hips! THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so pleased with the results!!!

Truthfully, I really didn't know what to expect. Since starting the program, I know I've been curtailing my diet seriously. It's truly been a struggle, but I am working it– the best I know. My doctor was really pleased. (She did the program herself and created the guidelines. In 1 year she lost 125 lbs! So for me it's good to have a doctor who PERSONALLY understands my frustrations.)

I did have "sorta" bad news regarding my test results. Let me remember what it was.... something that measures diabetes was elevated. The normal level of this thing is 5.6. Mine was 6.3, which puts me at a pre-diabetes stage II! Not that I have it, I am on the verge of it. Therefore she said that I didn't need medicine to control it. However she felt I needed to be on alert and to take strategic measures. Added to my vitamins, I will be taking Carb Right, which regulates carbohydrate utilization and absorption of both sugars and starches. All of the supplements come from a pharmaceutical company called AmeriSciences. (Excellent selection)!

In my guessing I think 10 lbs a month is a safe weight loss to expect. Since that diabetes alert has started, I will now be taking 2 shots a week. Even more so now, I will be monitoring things with a healthier stance. Because now it’s not just about weight loss– it’s about staying alive! Please continue the good work, and I look forward to hearing your success.

hey veca- i called a bariatric clinic here in greenville today- they don't do the hcg shots- but they do do the b-12 "for extra energy" was the woman's explanation- and they cost $110 for the first visit and $45 for each subsequent visit.

this place in concord- how much is it?  and do you know what the difference between the hcg and the b-12 shots are?

open to advice!

Hi Kari!  Its great to see someone else from Raleigh as well! I posted a while back in hopes that someone from this side of Greensboro has heard of a Dr. that prescribes the HGC shots.  I was communicating with Savchan a while back and I believe she was taking Novarel + Adipex and saw some good results with it.. and per her quotes it wasn't that expensive.. maybe $60 or so for 6-8 weeks of shots.  I had kinda given up on finding a Dr. in this area and hated to think about driving 3 hours every other week.. Please let me know if you happen to find a doctor closer to this area!

Thanks

To: karibritt01
Thank you very much for the offer!  Do you know what the recommened diet is like? Or would you happen to know if he uses Adipex or Bontril for appetite suppressant...per a lot of posts on here.. Bontril doesn't seem to work all that great..  :(
Is this the doctor your friend used as well (the one who lost 80 lbs in 6 months)  That's really phenomenal!!!!!  Driving 4 hours once a month surely beats driving that every 2 weeks.  I'm going to call and see if they have any appts left for the 16th.  I'm also waiting on a call back from a Dr's office here in Raleigh to let me know if they offer the shots.  I'll keep you posted.

by redynamite, Mar 02, 2006 12:00AM
To: karibritt01
Wow!  that is impressive.. Well the doc. office called back and they don't do the shots.  :(  I wasn't able to get an appt for the 16th, but they squeezed me in on the 20th @ the huntersville location.  It's approx. 15 miles and minutes further but I made sure I asked if I could go to the statesville office for my follow up and they said yes.. I hope I'm able to get results like gigglegirl... Since the days are so close together maybe they'll let me come in a few days earlier so we can ride together for our follow-ups... did you already fill out your patient form (online/from their website)?
In just reading some posts it seems like weight loss varies from about 11-24 or so lbs.. I would love to know what I need to do inorder to achieve the 24 + weight loss a month.

To: karibritt01
Wow! you're not playing... That's wonderful you're able to have the motivation and self-control to continue on this journey.  Yes, pls do post once you've gotten back from the doc. so I'll know what to expect.

Have a great weekend!

by mcooper, Mar 09, 2006 12:00AM
Kari you seem to be everywhere!! You are so supportive!
Mel - It seems that you have the will-power & are on the right track. I found this forum a couple of days ago looking for info on the HCG shots. They do those in this area (SE Texas - which by the way took a big hit from Hurricane Rita!) I'm starting next fri. I go to 1 1/2 hour orientation & then check in every week. I don't know exactly what all they offer, but whatever I can get my hands on is what I'm going for.:) I have a trip to Daytona coming up the end of June & I don't want to look like a beached beluga whale!
A couple of tricks that I have learned & that have helped are:
*anything solid at room temp is not good for you (as far as shortening, butter, etc.)
*When exercising, you can exercise for 4 mins at a time (helps when you have small kids) 20 sec bursts, rest for 10 secs.
*Those Nabisco 100 calorie packs are really good!!
The OTC pills are expensive & I think your body gets used to them after a while. I have been swapping Hydroxycut & Farenheit (@ Wal-Mart). Kind of throws the body off! I don't know how old your kids are & what the weather is like there, but getting out with the kids helps. I've been playing baseball with my 5 year-old. He can't throw very well, so I get A LOT of exercise chasing the balls!
Good luck to you & wish me luck on my endeavor. I've got 30-40 pounds to go.
Any ideas on how to lose weight without losing the boobs? I don't have much there!! It's all BGT (butt, gutt, thighs) ;-}

by mcooper, Mar 10, 2006 12:00AM
We're going to NASCAR race, but get to stay 5 days right on the beach with NO kids!!  I've tried the chest exercises - may end up doing what a couple other ladies in  my office are planning...boob job-not!! Just deal with the flat chest & start loving Victoria Secret as my cousin says. I'm finally a full B, but that's the first thing to go on me.

As far as the hurricane business goes, we didn't have much damage to the house ($7700) but several of our neighbors' houses were destroyed. They're still living in travel trailers. We had several trees down in the back & still haven't made it to the very back. Too wet & really don't care to see it right now. Too busy to get it cleaned up. Got to work to make the mortgage, car note, land note, etc., etc.,etc. Neither my husband or I got the luxury of drawing "emergency unemployment". I had to get back to work that next Wed. (4 days after the storm hit). Extreme Makeovers is rebuilding a school in the area. Sabine Pass (which is about 20 miles to our south) got really tore up.

by kntx720, Mar 10, 2006 12:00AM
We didn't get much damage, either.  I live NW of Beaumont.  We had approx $13000 worth of damage.  Fences, carport roof, trees tore up.  We (me,my kids and my mom) ended up in Wichita, Kansas for 2 weeks.  When we left my mom asked where we were going and I didn't know so I told her we are going to keep driving north until we find a place.  We had to stay gone...My daughter was only 7 weeks old and the electricity wasn't back on yet.  My mom didn't try to get the emergency unemployment,  but we did get the FEMA money and FEMA paid for our hotel.  But what is so screwed up is that, in our neighborhood, there are 7 houses/households.  Two of those houses did not get anything from FEMA even though they appealed it.  And one of those two houses FEMA denied is an emergency official that had no choice but to stay.

by kntx720, Mar 10, 2006 12:00AM
All red cross did for us in Kansas was give us a $25 gas card (for a gas station I have only seen, to this day, in Kansas).  And a $25 gift card to a grocery store. Twice. In two weeks. Don't get me wrong, we were thankful for whatever we could get, but even if we could have used the gas card outside of Kansas, $50 wouldn't have even brought us back over the Kansas border back towards Oklahoma and Texas, especially the way gas had cost this last summer and also because I drive a truck.  The reason we didn't get the $300-and-something plus for each member of our household ($1200+) was Red Croos didn't have our zip code on their list of "natural disasters".  Even though 3 out of my 7 neighbors were getting theirs the same day we tried .  (They weren't in Kansas, though.)  Of those three, one person from one household had just got done getting their $900+ giftcards for Wal-Mart and another neighbor from another house was at another desk and they denied her.  Their front doors are maybe 75 ft from each other.  The President had already declared it a natural disaster.  Even when we got back and tried they still denied us.  And that happened to a lot of people through out the entire area.  Some would get assistance from one place but their neighbors wouldn't get a d*mn thing.

HeHe...my tie in to this forum is, er, how I had just started the Atkins diet again when my daughter was 6 weeks old and had lost right at 10 pounds and then Rita hit and I had no other choice but to eat fast food because we had to drive for 19 hours and couldn't stop.

by mcooper, Mar 10, 2006 12:00AM
We were without electricity for 3 weeks. I-needless to say-lost weight. We had record-breaking heat when we came back on Monday. We hooked up generators at the office & worked using generators for about a week. One of the girl's dad works for Entergy, so we go our elect on pretty quick @ the office. (Gee thanx!!) I won't get started with the gov. & ins. business. I could go on for days! Let's just say I'm changing ins. co.
I tell my boss that I would rather work in the field than in the office. I love being outside, but by the time I get off work during the winter it's dark. Mosquitos are so bad during the summer that it makes it hard to get outside. We have been trying to walk during lunch (when it's not raining). It helps a lot when there are others that you work with that are trying to lose weight also. Even the skinny ones are trying to at least tone up so they'll "look good" in a bathing suit.
One other thing I have found is that tanned fat looks skinnier than white fat. Those cellulite dimples don't look as deep! LOL
I have been trying to eat smaller meals throughout the day, as someone else has suggested. I drink a slim fast for breakfast & lunch, & then eat a couple of healthy snacks in between breakfast, lunch, and supper. What can I do to motivate my husband? He likes veggies, but would rather BlueBell, so of course he buys it a gallon at a time. I have tried to get him to walk with me, but his knee hurts. He don't really have time to go to the diet clinic with me. He's an electrician & works construction.

by kntx720, Mar 10, 2006 12:00AM
I just started back tanning about 2 weeks ago.  You know how they say dark clothes make you look smaller...I think the same applies to tan skin.  LOL

by mcooper, Mar 10, 2006 12:00AM
Poor Kari-my daughter has that same problem!! She's dark headed though. All she gets is good set of freckles every year-like her dad did. My son is blonde headed & tans very well-like me.  I tell ya, the chocolate slimfast mix with fat free milk is pretty good. mix it up & put it in the fridge for a while. it gets real thick, almost like melted ice cream. Or at least that's what I tell myself! :)
melitys-haven't heard from you in awhile. How's it going?

by CarolinaGal, Mar 23, 2006 12:00AM
This is CarolinaGAl and I am enjoying reading all the comments on here from Kari and all of you others as well. I live in Raleigh NC and have an appointment in Statesville, NC for the HCG shots next week.  I am excited about starting after all I have heard.  i found this site by searching for info on this subject.

I weighed approximately 130lbs when I got pregnant with my 2nd child. I ballooneed up to 220lbs. Had a c-section because he was too big to fit through the birth canal. It's been over 6 years and cannot get any of the weight off! I've tried everything! Dieting exercise ..have not tried any medications. II'm 28 years old I'm only 5'4 and weigh in at the Dr's at 240lbs! Anybody have ANY suggestions as to where to go from here!?
