Some friends and I are considering using the synthetic hormone hcg to lose weight.  Interested in hearing from anyone who has tried this -- results, risks, etc.

Especially interested in hearing how the risks compare to the risks of obesity.

Hcg is not a synthetic hormone. It is made during pregnancy and is all-natural. (Don't ask me how the pharmacy makes it into a powder, because I don't know. But I do know it is derived from pregnant women's urine. Sounds gross, but if you consider that the first doctor who discovered this diet was giving people retention enemas with the urine, the pharmacy's powder form doesn't seem so bad.)

You probably know all the risks of obesity, so I won't go into those.

The risk for side effects of the hcg protocol as I know it are(My husband is an ND and I have done the program myself- if you are interested in his website it is gotnd(dot)com):
headaches, constipation, potassium deficiency, gout, (RARELY) some women have claimed to get pregnant even though taking birth control, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, lower blood sugars, not needing some medications(including insulin for some people), increased energy, and quick weight loss

Do your homework on this one. You can do this protocol by yourself and buy from the internet but it is always better to get a local doctor to guide you through. That way if you have questions or concerns about your health, there is someone to help you. Just be wary of the pricing - they can range from $12 (that was what someone quoted on a medhelp forum) to over $5000. (My hubby charges $555 for a complete 5 week course including shipping and injection supplies -Sorry for the quick advertisement - you obviously can just ignore that if you wish!)
