maybe we need a dr over here

People im sorry to say but you are all injuring yourself with these 500 cal a day diets. im shocked that you go to weight loss centers and someone tells you to do this. our bodies cant survive well on this. you not only lose some fat, but you are losing muscle tissue. that is where your inches are going to. i understand wanting to lose, and i understand the desire to do it quickly, but you have to exercise. peekawho gave a great explanation and some still think drugs and not working out are the answer. yes for health problems down the line. im concerned for your health. if you are only having 500 cal a day, then you dont have the energy to exercise properly (if at all, i dont hear too much of that going on). i hate exercise, but i am making myself do it. you must burn calories, to lose weight. and by simply starving yourselves, well it just sounds so anorexic. i suggest taking it slower. talking with a REAL dr about goals and expectations. does anyone ask their own dr about weight loss? im not trying to be mean, but some of you are having some pretty risky behaviors and i dont want to see anyone get sick from this.

I totally agree! Not healthy! I think people want to loose weight so fast that they don't understand! It takes time to loose weight the HEALTHY way! I lost 35 pounds in 5 months on Weight Watchers and was very happy with my results and I d@mn well didn't do it off starving myself! I had always had trouble loosing weight. I can say that I actually stuck with it and didn't starve myself or feed my body a bunch of unnecessary pills to do so! I think perty is correct! We need a doctor over here!

I've been fighting a losing battle with Cindy over this forum for months now.  Its a dangerous thing.  People posting websites to get illegal access to prescription weight loss drugs.  People posting directions how to use dangerous drugs.

I'm tired of beating my head against a brick wall.  I guess that's why so many women are willing to die to be slim.  Desperation.

Thanks! There are a lot of safe ways to do it! I refuse to give anymore money to these drug companies!

I've been reading through the  posts and I was wondering how you can have a diet plan with Dr Lara, but be in a different state? (I realize this is off the subject but I need help)

Try the "You on a Diet" book.  There is also information about it on Oprah's web site.  It helps you understand why you get hungry.  One trick is to be ready with something PROPER to eat, and not to get so hungry you just EAT whatever is in front of you.  You have to plan your meals a day ahead.

How are you going to maintain this though, for the rest of your life???

I just wanted to say that I am a supporter of the hcg and phentermine program for several important reasons, but I never could go as low as 500 either. My goal was to develop healthy eating habits that my family and I could stick to for life and that is what I have done. I fully believe that is the key to keeping the weight off after stopping the meds.

What being on the program did for me was give me control so that I didn't have to fight that losing battle with my will power and give up after seeing little to no results. I had time on my side to learn the healthy habits and it got easier to say yes to the good and no to the bad. The more the results showed, the more encouraged I was and the easier it was to stick with it.

I started on the program last June and used to read this forum pretty much every day, but I went back to work late last fall and haven't kept up with it that much lately. So I haven't read the posts you're referring to about people doing unhealthy things and starving themselves. But I just wanted to throw in my two cents, that I really agree with you about diet and exercise, doing it the healthy way and keeping it off, but also that the medications can play a positive role for those of us that need extra help and have tried everything else and just can't do it on our own.

ohmygod, I cannot believe you are at 52 lbs!! That is AWESOME!! I am so proud and excited for you! I sure hope I get there. I decided to go it on my own for a while and not go back on the shots and stuff, mainly just to save the money but also to see if I could since I spent all those months, like I said, learning the habits, so maybe now I can stick to them. I have the diet down pretty well and I kicked the soda habit again, but its still really hard to get the exercise in with a busy work schedule. And my new problem is my new job is teaching preschool in a day care center. Of course you can't leave them alone to go to the bathroom so I've had to cut way back on my water during the day! I try to get it in  in the late afternoon and evening, but I don't want to be getting up at night to go either! So I'm still stuck somewhere around 38 lbs or so. Oh well, at least its a start. I will get there somehow! I have to! Well anyway, congrats on yours - doesn't that put you pretty close now? I wish we could put before & after pics on here! (Of course it'll be a year before I'll be able to!) Chat later!

I see a big difference between "just needing some extra help" and following an extreme course of action with drugs and a 500 cal a day starvation "diet".  500-700 cals a day is starvation.  Pretty it up with whatever terminology you like, but your body cannot survive on that for long.

These drugs are not without possibly dangerous side effects.  If they are found to cause serious health problems in the future (remember Phen-fen?), will you be at the head of the line to sue b/c you were given them?

What it all boils down to, regardless of how you look at it or what you take, you have to burn more than you take in, in order to lose weight.  You can't take drugs forever, nor can you survive on 500 cals a day without harming yourself.  If you feel you have to have a kickstart, you may become discouraged when you go off the drugs/starvation diet and some of the weight comes back.

I agree with you Peek.  The ONLY plan that works, that is worth doing in the first place (!) is the one that you will be able to stick to for the rest of your life!  All these fad diets, forget it.  Do it like bookerswife, she's got it right!
People take a while to pile on the extra pounds, yet they then want to drop these huge amounts so rapidly.  It's not wise to mess with your metabolism this way, because you can ruin your body permanently.
To get back to the weight you are supposed to be (often what it was around the age of 17 or 18) is a no brainer.  It's not EASY but it is possible.  No sugar, no white flour, no white rice.  No booze.  Eat whole grains and fiber.  Many servings of vegetables and fruit. Healthy protein like salmon. No soda (including DIET soda, artificial sweeteners are bad for you) or fruit juice.  Drink water.  Exercise hard for an hour a day, six days a week.  Be patient.  Don't cheat.  It works.  Read "You On a Diet"... Dr Oz is right.

by peekawho, Jan 27, 2007 12:00AM
No booze?????????

*faints*

by AnotherKatie, Jan 27, 2007 12:00AM
I know, it's really, really sad.  :(
But I'll take the food when I see how much sugar is in a glass of wine!

So, as you are looking for more human chorionic gonadotropin, that means you didn't keep the weight off!

by AnotherKatie, Jan 31, 2007 12:00AM
There are numberous reputable sites warning of the dangers of these practices.  Look on the Mayo Clinic site.

Maybe deal with your other issues, perhaps the weight will come off then.  Such as your overreactions to statements of fact, and the fact that you allow yourself to be injected with substances, not even knowing what they are.
Gee, I wonder why your "clinic" closed?
"The Women's Groups.." ??  What?
Where DO you get your information???

by lizzyn, Feb 06, 2007 12:00AM
WOW

To: everyone using hcg
Can anyone tell me if it's safe to use hcg while nursing and on birth control?  If not, can anyone tell me where I can find that information?

Thanks,

J
