prescription water pills - directions?

Hi, i was recently prescribed water pills, hydrochlorothyazide, but I don't have any other directions about taking them other than 1 pill every monday, wednesday and friday.
Here's the thing...am I supposed to drink water with the pills? I mean extra water when I'm taking the pills to help make the pills do their job? I'm also concerned because I've been constipated for 5 days after taking the water pills and i'm wondering if this is related.
Now, today, I read that eating one bananna a day will help prevent the water pills causing potassium deficiency but since i've been constipated, i'm afraid to eat banannas.
