stay at home mom wanting help to loose baby weight

by laura1977, Feb 24, 2007 12:00AM
HELP PLEASE!  I am a 29 year old stay at home mom of two children, ages 2 and 4.  It has been about 4 and half years since I put myself before anybody.  Due to this fact my body has also taken a back seat.  I am 5'5" 192 lbs.  I am in need of about a 40 pound weight loss.  Problem is I have severe hormone problems that make it hard.  3 months ago I had a D&C then 2 months ago I had my lining of my uterus burned (Novasure), then 1 month ago I ended up having a super cervical hysterectomy.  That all was due to the fact of very heavy periods.  Well, that is taken care of.  Now I still have hormone problems though because I have my cervix and ovaries.  Once a month I get so hungry.  I could be dieting fine except when that time of the month hits.........its all over.  Plus, I don't exercise a lot except for running after my two kids.  Then by the time I put them to bed, I am out of energy to even try to do any kind of exercise.  I could use the support and the suggestions on what to do.

I would not be able to say anything about your hormonal state but I know how hard it is to weave any consistent exercise into a daily routine with two little ones. It is fine while they are still in a stroller but that does not last forever. Since all of my waking hours are divided between my 4-year-old and my employer, I had to invent some weekend exercise that I could do together with my son. On purpose I would leave the car behind, place my son in a wagon, strap on a large back pack and inline skates and head out to do grocery shopping about 2 miles away one way. It always turned out to be great exercise and some sort of adventure for my son but with two you might just go nuts... There are fitness centers and the Y that offer child care while you exercise. If you are a SAHM otherwise, they might not mind being dropped off for a little while. Once you know which activity works for you, it will be easier to figure out the matching food groups that will be good for your health and weight.

I am 44 and I have two small children ages 6 and 3. I have two older children and beleive me it's alot easier when your young.  I also have the hormonal thing going on.  I had a hysterectomy six months after my last child.  They left one ovary, so I haven't had to use HRT.  But I'm schedualed for surgery in two weeks to have that ovary removed due to endometreosis.  I'm sure after that I will have to do something for my hormones.  But I have found that the best time to exercise is after I get them to bed at night. I know it's hard to exercise when you can finally get the chance to just sit down, but I just make myself do it and then it really feels good to sit down.  I have been taking Phenterimine for about two years, and it works very well to help control your appitite. It makes it easier to watch what you eat because your not hungary. But the longer you take it the less effective it is, so every two months I quit taking it for about a month.  It helped me to drop 30 pounds in about 2 months.

If you would like I can figure out how many calories you need to eat in a day. I have 2 young ones. 1 still at home during the day. After we send 1 off to school we are off to the gym, then we eat when we get back and it is nap time. I know you think we are crazy about working out because you are SO TIRED from the kids but trust me when I say the more you work out the more stamina you will get. I had all kinds of issues too, not like yours but the working out did help. I went REAL slow. It took time but it worked.

I wish you the best

Well, thank you to everyone.  You guys are so nice.  I know my problem.  I haven't made ME the first prio. in my life.  That is gonna change.  My husband, is the type of guy who eats whatever whenever and doesn't put on a pound.  I think he is 6 foot and weighs 160.  My 4 year old girl is the same way.  Bad thing is that my 2 year old seems to be taking after me.  In my family if you look at food you put on 10 pounds.  Kidding.  I did try the Y thing, but my husband complained about that.  He's a good guy, but I think he just wants me at home 24/7.  Of course he would never admit to that.  I guess when you have never had problem with your weight like him, you just don't get it.  Then on the other hand I can tell he doesn't look at me the same way before I put on weight.  I will say one thing though, I'm not too big.  Size 14 jeans.  I wanna be 10 though.  My daughters deserve to have a mother that can run and keep up with them.  Lets all pick a day for me to get this thing going.  I don't get the support at home, because my husband hates it when there aren't sweets or chips at house.  I need your help to make this happen.  Please!

I'm a mother of three, (6, 5, & 1-1/2) you would think I would get enough excersise huh? lol I currently have a full time job, and then come home to my other job (mommy). I am overweight too. I have hormone problems, but not as severe. I haven't been able to lose my "baby weight" after my last one was born. I'm getting up at 4:15 every morning and going to the gym to work out for an hour. I have been back at the gym for about 2 months now and have not seen any progress yet. I have my days that I push harder than others, and I know that muscle weighs more than fat. But then again I'm not losing any inches either. I try to watch what I eat (I admit I have a sweet tooth), and if I do have sweets, I try to have them in the first part of the day. I also have kidney problems, so a high protein diet don't work for me either.

If anyone has any suggestions, would be happy to hear them.

I recommend you and your husband sit down and have a talk. Tell him you would like his support. He may look healthy and eat what he wants but inside his body it might be different. Tell him you want to teach your kids about food and healthy stuff. My kids don't eat any junk food except on saturdays. They love cheat day. My husband knew i was miserable and he has helped and still helping me through my challanges. You can go to the Y by yourself and put the kids in there programs while you workout and give yout husband "his" time on the couch :) weight loss sucks and is hard but you can do it. just remember this is a life sytle change for a longer healther life :)

we are here to help you.

Good luck

you need to get on a hormone balancing supplement. go to google and type in health quest supplements and it should pull up. Buy their female balance pills they are what CURED by endometriosis in 30 days..no joke! i do not sell these so dont think i have any financial gain for telling you this. If you had taken these before your surgery you wouldnt have had to have it. It will make u feel great and make your periods (lack there of) great with no cravings or cramps. I promise this will help. Good luck
