You may be hearing your own heartbeat too. While working at an ObGyn office where we had NST machines, all moms carrying multiples had to be sent to the hospital for their NST's because our machine was only equiped to monitor one fetus. The U/S would be a more difinitive way to determine multiples. NOT that it isn't possible that they missed one in the early U/S, but I wouldn't bank on the At Home Doppler. Now if you have two dopplers going at the same time and get two seperate heartbeats that are considerably faster than your own pulse, then that would be a bit more concise.

Closer to baby than to mom.
It sounds promising, since the numbers differ. The only other thing it might be is that with a good doppler you can hear the heart separately from the umbilicus. The umbilicus has as firm a pulse as the heart, but a slightly more "swish swish swish" or "whew! whew! whew!" sound to it. (My doctor pointed this out in our earliest ultrasound, so I am not making it up, LOL.)
does the umblicus have a fast pulse like the baby or a slow pulse like mom?
I not really sure but it does sound like maybe twins. Well when you go in for your next ultrasound you'll know for sure .:)Good Luck.
thanks annie-i'll listen more closely next time.
The firs time my doc. tried to listen to my little ones heart beat I thougt I heard it it was a whow, whow, whow noise and he said no thats the blood flow to your utrus. I can feel it if I push my fingers into my belly about a inch bellow my belly button. Or it could be 2!
I don't really know but I hope its TWINS. I mean you are getting two different heartbeats in two different spots. I think maybe twins. What does your doctor say?
