A Hysterectomy Decision...

Well, it would seem that a hysterectomy is on the table for discussion, according to my provider.
I used to think that I wouldn't care if they just cut the whole messy contraption out, but now that it's a serious consideration, I'm having second thoughts.
My "condition" isn't even clear, so I'm trying to weigh my options and other thay a hysterectomy, perhaps an ablation sounds good. They're telling me that I'm young for an ablation, but not young for a hysterectomy? I'm 29 and it seems a little drastic. I've been having heavy and long-lasting periods for greater than the last year. Huge blood clots and sometimes non-stop bleeding for greater than a month at a time. No known fibroids. No known endometriosis. No known blood disorders. No pregnancy or miscarriage (I've had tubal ligation X 2 years) and no abnormalities other than an off-beat timing system. I don't get it. So I've asked for ablation, but they discouraged me by saying that I'd need repeat procedures because I'm young, that it could cause scarring, etc. Well, it just seems like a good hold-off solution till I AM older and then maybe I won't be so hesitant towards a hysterectomy.
But let's just assume I'm game for it and then what? I read that subtotal/partial hysterectomies reduce infection, damage to ureters, and lend to sustained sexual pleasure and sensation. I've always wondered how women have sex without cervixes. Does it feel differently to a man? Do they close up the vagina at the end? It seems a bit peculiar and well...weird...to just have a cervix floating around down there without the rest of my uterus attached. Anyone have personal experience they'd like to share with either procedure (total vs. subtotal)? Advantages/Disadvantages? I'm not going to give up my ovaries at this point because I do happen to think I'm too young for hormone replacement therapy for the rest of my life, thank you very much. This is just an anatomy/sex question for women and how they do or don't enjoy sex after the procedures. Or maybe you've been in my boat and have alternatives to share? Thanks in advance!

First off i'm sorry you are going through this. It must be frustrating that they can't even put a name to it. Have they checked for Adenomyosis? It is like endometriosis but in stead of the tissue going out od the uterus it actually goes between the uturine wall and into the muscle of the uterus. this is what i had. And i had all you symptoms except period would only last the normal 5 days, very heavy and after period this enormouse heavy weighted feeling that was very uncomfortable. ( turns out my uterus was twice it's normal size and heavy as a rock.)

Anyway, 17 months after supracervical laproscopic hyst, i  now  am having cramps, bleeding heavyness and pelvic pain. There seems to be alot of women this happens to. Whatever is causing the heavy bleeding can sometime affect your cervix after. this seems to be new info, check the web. I found a site that said laproscopic hysts where leaving tiny pieces of tissue behind and causing same problems.
If i had to do it all over again, i would get it done vaginally and remove my cervix. Before all me syptoms started again sex was great. I personally think sex is more in womens minds than our bodies, and having sex know it was not going to hurt or i wasn't going to bleed during was very freeing. Now i am back to syptoms and not having sex for those very reasons. ARGH!!! Looks like another surgey for me. I hope you do as  much research as possible to make the best choice for yourself. Keep asking questions. Your the only one who knows which way is right for you. your not alone.
