A moving fibroid?

by dancingheart, Jul 02, 2009 07:50AM
Hi, this may sound a bit crazy...but I went to the doctor (OB-GYN) a while ago after finding a lump in the lower right quadrant of my abdomen.  Of course when I went for an ultrasound they found no lumps in the area... one was found about the size of a gulf ball and they said it was a fibroid in the uterine lining.  I went back to my doctor having problems with 13 day heavy periods...no sooner I get over one  then I get PMS a week later (very sore heavy hot breasts of which I have never gotten before) then I get another period 8-9 days later. He said that my uterus was the size of like being 4 months pregnant. He felt a larger lump in the exam than what showed on the ultrasound...He said that I could chose to have a hysterectomy at my own leisurely pace.  That was that...last I knew he was to call me with a specialist's name and number.  I had already tried taking birth control hormones and I only bled more and and had problems with more heart palpitations (made my heart rhythms worse), and nausea...so I don't consider it an option anymore!

Now comes the strange part...recently this lump is traveling throughout my abdominal cavity.  Getting in the way when I am doing yoga, dancing, biking... and I woke up this morning and it was pushing out my belly button!!!  I can push it around to a more comfortable position (I don't know if I should be doing that as it hurts badly and feels weird when it rolls to a different spot.)  Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?  When I feel my abdomen the hard lump feels kind of like a hard long tube like structure...a little larger on one side than the other....And it really hurts when it is trapped up high like under my rib cage...most of the time it lies sideways on top of my pubic bone.  Sometimes it pushes on my bladder and then I have the urge to go all day!  I talk to the doctor about this and all he says is that the fibroid can move because the uterus is not a stable organ, so the lump would move around with the uterus.  I said this must be one large fibroid...certainly feels larger than what was noted...His response...I am also feeling my uterus too (as I am more of a slender build.)  How many people can feel their uterus?  Anyway, He says that he is sending me to a specialist that might know more, but i have heard nothing from him!  This is so uncomfortable...Has anyone heard of this or experienced it before? My thoughts are roaming and my anxiety is soaring on top of it all!

I am just trying to keep my post at the top for a while....In hopes of finding someone else who has gone through this.  I am so afraid that it is making me have more panic attacks and heart rhythm problems than normal.

Ultrasound only shows a large fibroid.  Doctor doesn't know why it should move around or even push out my belly button...said he never heard of it! He said may be it isn't a fibroid and that this isn't something that can be seen on the ultrasound.

I tried to look it up on-line and found nothing...or maybe someone else has more knowledge on looking it up and finding something and could post it for me.

I hate to say it...but I think modern medicine is failing many women.  For the past 5 1/2 months I was convinced I was pregnant.  I have five children already, of which I was told that I could never be pregnant.  And much like this health issue, I was told that my uterus is 14 weeks, but I'm not pregnant.  BHCG serum and urine is normally negative - no surprise there! But this is rough!  Everything about my body says pregnancy.  I had an ultrasound today, and was told that I have uterine fibroids that mimic pregnancy.  I am confused because I too have movement.  I've had fibroids before, but no movement as if it were a baby.  I feel like a fool.  So when I visited a friend today and she saw my big belly, I told her that my uterus was pregnant with we don't know what yet.  I'm scheduled to get a second opinion on Tuesday with a different doctor.  I didn't know fibroids could do all of this.  Oh by the way...my eldest son, who was finally discovered by doctors when I was almost 6 months pregnant is 20 years old today and in the military.  I did lose one son in my 39th week (a twin) because they said they only saw one baby.  Go figure..... I don't know what to believe anymore.  But I will say this, if I were on an island where there wasn't fancy equipment and a bunch of educational degrees in medicine - I would say without a doubt that I was pregnant again, and that it couldn't be fibroids that's causing aversion to smells, appetite changes, gradual weight gain, swelling, bleeding gums, changes in my body shape, vivid dreams about a daughter that I don't already have, and so much more....So please know that you are not alone in your medical fact finding endeavors.

I too have a Fibroid and I am getting ready to schedule a surgery to have it removed I have one big one in the lining of the uterus so my doctor recommends it that I have it out since it's changing the shape of the uterus. I had a miscarriage 4 months ago, they don’t know if the fibroid was the cause but they can’t say for sure. I found out I had a fibroid while I was pregnant, before that the only symptom from this fibroid was my 7 day long periods. Now after my miscarriage, my periods are double that and the fibroid that had grown during pregnancy is smaller now but still the size of a tennis ball, but my periods are very long. So I am having a myomectomy performed soon to preserve the uterus and still be able to have children in the future. I hope everything goes good with that. I too can feel the fibroid sometimes and the pressure of it when I'm lying down. I just want it out now, I am scared about the surgery but I’m putting my trust in God that I'm making the right decision about this.
Good luck to you all
Hopeful K

look up pedunculated fibroid.  I think we are having the same problem.  Apparently this type of fibroid is attached to a stalk connected to your uterus. and can make you feel like you have a baby moving inside.  I even read in one instance that it can be moved around like you were mentioning, hope this helps.  If i find out more at my gyno visit in a couple of days, I will send more info.
