Abnormal Discharge. :(

I'm a girl, 20 and have been suffering from abnormal vaginal discharge for like 7 months now. During the first 2 months my symptoms were burning sensation when I urinate and a very foul smelling white to yellowish discharge. Went to a OB Gyne, she checked me and prescribed me Metronidazole, Doxycycline hyclate 2 times a day for 1 week and albothyl vaginal suppository. I thought I was going to be cured coz the smell went away but to my dismay the discharge is still there, only that now its frothy and my vagina itches. I went to see her (the dr) again and told me I had UTI. I told her about the update to my problem. She gave me Inozole (not sure of the spelling) and ofloxacin for my uti. I took the medicine but still my uti and discharge is not going away. This time the itch is gone and my discharge is greenish. Went to see a new doctor. I had TVS (they suspected I had PID) my organs were normal. Thanks God. They gave me Metronidazole again and another tablet for uti. Now my discharge is like snot. I recently went to a new doctor and had gramstain. She said my results were okay. But she noticed a wart inside my vagina. It's small though. Why do I still have this discharge? :( The discharge is not smelly but it resembles mucus. I'm still waiting for the result of my pap test. Please share your thoughts about my problem.

Sad thing I live in a province. The hospitals here are not really good compared to the hospitals in the big cities. :( I've been to 3 different hospitals and not one of the doctors there gave me a specific answer to my problem. :(

BV while not an STD is transferred by a sex partner but you also can just develop it.  I had BV when I was sexually inactive.  It happens.  Bacteria can grow in dark, damp places . . .

Yes, I'd get checked out. The gram strain is for the UTI.  They check your urine and see if it has bacteria in it.  Your UTI is gone.  However, you could have fungal/yeast issues.

They need to swab the discharge.  Then they look at it under a microscope and tell you what it is.  good luck

Since the last 7 months, I did not have any sexual intercourse with my partner. My BV was probably because I had multiple sex partners that time. I regret having have done that.

Thank you for your time. :) Do you think I still have to get treated for the discharge I am having right now? My recent doctor told me that the result of my gram stain was okay. But I still have this mucus like discharge.

Hi there.  Sorry about your trouble.  I suspect your UTI is indeed gone---  uti's hurt hon.  They burn when you pee and you want to pee all the time.  So, the antibiotics probably worked on that or you'd not be feeling good at all (UTI, urinary tract infection---  bacterial infection).

You first had BV, and this was treated.  Then the UTI along with what was probably a yeast infection.  And then the antibiotics you take for the UTI causes more of a yeast infection as the antibiotic kills all bacteria including good bacteria in the vagina which combats yeast overgrowth.

I would guess you need to be treated for yeast.  ALSO, BV, the original thing you were treated for is hard to fully get rid of.  It often takes two to three tries for women and you can pass it back and forth with your partner.  You should always make sure your partner wears a condom if you are sexually active.  But don't be surprised if the BV returns.

So, see your doctor, get the yeast treated (diflucan works well for many), eat probiotic yogurt or take probiotic supplements, wear cotton underwear and change it often, air out at night when sleeping if you can and NEVER douche.  good luck
