Abnormal Heavy Menstrual Cycle

I am 41 and had my tubes tied 5 years ago.  3 years ago suffered a heart attack due to blockage in one of my valves.  Doctors indicated stress was cause.  The past few months my periods have been light and abnormal.  This month it seems like it wont ever end.  Been bleeding, sometimes VERY heavy, including discharge of major clots for almost a full month.  No other symptoms.  I plan on making a dr. appt. next week (waiting for new insurance to kick in on the 1st in case it is something serious).  Any adivce?  Is this early signs of menopause or maybe something more serious?  Any advice appreciated.  Thank you.

Anyways now i'm concerned because for the past 3 months i've been bleeding everyday. I bleed brown for 2 months everyday then heavy red for 1 week stopped bleeding compeletly for 4 days and now bleeding very heavy for 11 days now. I'm in a lot of pain and have no energy. Heavy bleeding is part of getting older for some of us. I had the same symptoms and they just got worse and worse. I stayed anemic 1/2 the time. The flow was out of control. My doctor said it was perimenopause. Whatever. She put me on Yasmin birth control births (not that I'm in that phase of life-44 years old) and wham...easy periods. Check with your doctor. I went 5 years of living in the toilet the first 2 days of my period. I could have saved big $ on tampons if I'd gone earlier!
