First of all, I thank God that I found this site. I've looked to this site many times for health-related issues that were of a concern at that time.
I went in for a mammogram Jan 27th(haven't had one in a while) and waited for the results.I tried to contact my doctor several times to get the results. I was not having any symptoms at the time in either breast, but knew that I needed to get one done.
Anyway, I finally spoke to my doctor (Feb 7th)and he said that I needed to see a surgeon about my test.(abnormal mammogram) The report said:
Impression: New large asymmetric density in the left superior breast; BI_RADS: Category 0, incomplete.
just a thought...have you tried posting this on the breast cancer forum? You'll most likely get more accurate answers there.
I wish i had some advice for you, but i don't. All i can say is try not to freak out until you have a reason to. Abnormal mammogram does not necessarily mean breast cancer. you are taking the steps you need in order to find an accurate diagnosis. Good luck with everything and you'll be in my prayers. :)
working in radiology myself I would think the first step would be to have the cone views and ultrasouond before seeing a surgeron. I mean it could be nothing and I really am curious why they would tell you to see a surgeon before the diagnostic tests have been performed. It could be a shadowing from the implants but if they are calling it large it would be seen with the cones and ultrasound in a better degree. I would think the surgeron would need these test result all performed before he consulted with you. Are you feeling a mass or was this a routine screening? Mammograms are vital to be done every year and it is very important after having an abnormal one they you get these routinely each yr unless recommended sooner. Best of luck to you dont' fear the worse, stay calm until all of the test are performed
Actually, this was a routine mammogram. I was going through a divorce and didn't have one for a couple of years and thought it was time to have one done. (no excuse)
Sometimes it's difficult (when you have implants)to tell if it's just part of the implant or an actual whatever. Even now when I feel my breasts, both sides feel the same. And I obtained the mammogram results, looked at the film myself and saw something that they circled on there) I did make an appointment with the surgeon first (as my doctor instructed me to do) I thought it was a little odd, but complied. And then while talking to his nurse, she was also curious why he had me going to a surgeon first instead of having the tests done.
Well, I immediately set up an appointment to have the spot impression and ultrasound done. (earliest to get in is Feb 20th), so I will have both of them that day.
Thanks for your concern, and I will keep everybody posted as to the outcome. I'm staying positive, one day at a time.
i think there are two breast cancer sites on this forum: one for patient-to-doctor and the other patient-to-patient. did you try to post on the patient-to-patient site?
your doctor didn't call YOU when he/she got the report of an abnormal test? i would sure questions him/her why you had to call to get the information. don't forget....the odds of this being nothing serious are in your favor. good luck :)
I went in for my spot compression and ultrasound today. I went to a different facility and took my previous mammograms with me. The facility and staff were so nice and courteous. They made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in until the moment I left.
The tech did a digital mammo and something did show up on the film. Next came the spot compression and I was a little nervous........she said, I'll be right back. The doctor wants to check the results.
Before going in, I remembered I was in a car accident just a couple of months ago and my seat belt hit my chest prettY hard. I was told that car accidents are the number one reason that implants (yes, I have them) rupture.
Anyway, I guess the tissue was folded over........because one the spot compression was done..it evened itself out.
Bottom line, I didn't have to have the ultrasound done. The tech said that the doctor still had to do the report and I was most likely not going to have to come back for the ultrasound. Since they knew how important it was to me, theY called me and said I don't have to go in for the ultrasound. I can't tell you how relieved I was.
ANYWAY, I recently went through a divorce and wasn't taking care of myself.
