Abnormal Pap

Hi, last week I was told I had an abnormal pap. The nurse told me I have LSIL which from what Im gathering is a mild form of abnormal cells that can develop into cancer. The nurse said it could go away on its own or I might have to get the cells cut out before it could turn into cancer. I have to go in to get a Colposcopy in a few days. I really don't know what to expect. This is the first time I have ever had an abnormal result so Im getting pretty nervous about the Colposcopy. What should I expect? I have read it can cause some cramping and up to a week of bleeding. It don't sound fun at all. If I do have to get the cells cut out how bad is the procedure? Any similar stories or advice would be greatly appricated. The nurse told me not to stress over it because theirs nothing I can do about it now and it could be nothing. I really hope it is nothing and today Im really stressing out over my appointment.

I have had colopscopy done and i was too scared but its nothing.  After its done you will bleed a little less than a period and have cramps. Its worth it though to get the precancer cells out. Its very common these days 1 out of every 3 woman need this procedure done.

Hi, Im still pretty scared from worrying about the pain or if I have to get the surgery. I have been feeling really sick today from my anxiety over it. How long does the bleeding and cramping usually last? This is all very new to me since I have always have normal pap smears. Its pretty scary. How did the surgery go? Was you in very much pain after you were done?

Hi, Im not sure what all that means but all I was told is I have LSIL which is the mild forum of abnormal cells and she said its not cancer but it could develop into it and thats what they put on my paper results and what the nurse was explaining to me. She also didn't say I had HPV but she said I could and that what might be causing my abnormal pap results. I figured if I ddi have HPV it would of showed up on my pap. She said if I was 24 I would just need another pap in 6 months but since im 25 their just going to go ahead and do the Colopscopy. I have to get it done in about 12 hours. Im still pretty nervous about it but hopefully it wont be to bad and hopefully I wont have to get the surgery.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
A PAP smear can only indicate the presence of abnormal cells and does not indicate the level of CIN. Guidelines state that every woman who is diagnosed with HSIL/CIN2 by Pap smear should be followed up by colposcopy and biopsy. If PAP is normal but HPV is present it means that you have the HPV virus, but no cell changes were seen on your Pap test. In that case a repeat PAP is done but if it shows changes or still HPV is present then it needs further evaluation.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
