Abnormal period blood

I have been taking Zovia for birth control since oct 2007 and am always on time taking the pill. Lately my period blood has been brown instead of the usual red color that it used to be. I have read that brown just means it has been exposed to oxygen and it is normal at the beginning and end of my period, but it was never brown and as heavy as it is now. I used to just have brown spotting at the end of my period. For example, i just got my period on this past thursday and it was completely brown, including the clots of blood. Then it was heavy yesterdy morning and red, like normal, but last night it changed over to brown again and is still brown now. This just started to happen about 2 months ago. Is this something that can just happen and is normal? I feel fine otherwise.
