Am I allergic to it???

by ladyjv, Nov 28, 2006 12:00AM
Hey, I have a few questions...#1- I think I might be allergic to SECRET deodorant. My underpits each like crazy and I find myself constantly scratching once I wear it. My hubbie looks at my like Im crazy when I scratch so Im thinking about just changing brands. I have used SECRET for as long as I can remember so Im not sure what brand to use now...any recommendations? Question #2 - When it is ok to start taking folic acid/vitamins before I get pregnant, would it be 3 months before TTC or 4 or 5 months...I would also like to take vitamins in general since I tend to get sick a lot and I think I need to boost up my immune system so any suggestions on what vitamins I can buy can also be helpful. thanks!

Not sure about the deorderant, but I would try another brand and see if the itching stops - then you'll know if it is "Secret"

As for the vitamins, I usually have a hard time swallowing vitamins, so I take Centrum chewable multivitamins.  I don't plan on trying to concieve until late summer or fall (we're going to shoot for AFTER the wedding hehheh) but my OBGYN told me that the type of vitamins I am taking now are adequate.

If you don't have issues swallowing vitamins, there are a ton of option out there...not really sure if one is necessarily better than another.  Perhaps one of the brands that are specifically for women might be a good choice for you??

Oh, and regarding the deorderant....the Dove brand seems to be a milder deorderant, so maybe that would be a good choice.

But I guess it all depends on how much you sweat! I don't think Dove is strong enough for a man but made for a woman like Secret is.  :)

I agree with DM...try Dove, it is milder and it works well.  I have supersensitive skin and it doesn't cause me any problems.

i break out when i use certain kinds of deodorant i agree with everyone else i use dove and i like it.

I had the same problem with deodorant (Degree).  I used it for years with no problem, all of a sudden it didn't work and itched.  I just switched to Dove for a little while and switched back and I was okay.

And regarding the vitamins, why do they make prental vitamins so darn big!!!  They're like horse pills.  There has to be a better way, aaargh!!

I have the same problem with any scented items on my skin. Look for a deodorant that has no perfume in it (unscented). The brands that say "for sensitive skin" are also ok. Otherwise, I do the monkey itch too - it's very annoying.

As for the vitamins - you need to take folic acid for at least 3 months before ttc. It takes that long to build up the right amount in your system.

Sorry missed the part about immune boosting - try any brand of supplement that has something called "sterolins" in it - this is excellent for strengthening your immune system.

lady speed stick is great, I switched from secret to that and it worked well enough. not quite enough for me though, I still need to buy myself a stick of men's deodarent.

hello, how have you been!? How is your son doing?

by kenziesmom, Nov 28, 2006 12:00AM
I would suggest finding a vitamin that is natural and not synthetic.  They may be a little pricier, but they are worth it.

by ladyjv, Nov 28, 2006 12:00AM
thanks everyone for your responses. I will try Dove and will look into the vitamins!!!

Hey Shygirl!  I'm fine and my son is fine also.  My son told the girl the results the next day (She hadn't heard yet) and she told him he was lying and he just told her to have a good life. That's the last we heard from her.

Regarding the prenatal horse pills...there is a chewable prenatal vitamin. My Dr. perscribed them to me when I was pregnant.  They're not the best tasting buggers, but easier to choke down than the others.

I have a hard time with regular vitamins, nevermind the prenatals!  If it weren't for the chewables, I would have had to stick them in a piece of cheese or in peanut butter on the roof of my mouth...like you do to get a dog to swallow a pill.  LMAO.
