Amoxicillian and Ortho Evra ... could I be pregnant?

by LPony, Oct 18, 2005 12:00AM
OK, so I started taking Amoxicillian twice a day last Tuesday and I am currently on Ortho Evra.  Last week would normally have been my week off the patch but I decided to use an extra patch that week so I wouldnt be on my period this past weekend.  I had unprotected sex several times over the weekend ... and then realized that the antibiotics would have an effect on my birthcontrol. So I'm wondering what my chances are of being pregnant now?

Yes, it is true that antibiotics neutralize the effects of birth control.  It's too bad the doctor didn't remind you to use a back-up birth control method while taking the med.

As far as your chances of pg, it's very hard to say.  Yes, there is a chance, but as far as percentages - who knows.  My recommendation is stop using the patch until you find out about pg.  You should be able to take any hpt about 3 weeks after the last time you had unprotected sex.  Talk to your doctor for specific recommendations.

Remember - at the very least, you should not take wear the patch until you find out if you're pg!  Good luck!

I did call my doctor yesterday, she didnt seem too concerned about the matter.  She told me to make sure to use backup protection next time.  For whatever reason I'm still pretty worried over the situation.  Should I call her again to discuss it further or just try to dismiss it like she seemed to.

Thanks for the help, I've taken off the patch, now its just time to wait and see... thanks again for the input!

If it were me I'd take off my patch and use a hpt in about 3 weeks.

There's nothing the doc can do for you right now so that's probably why she's being nonchalant.
