Edema is swelling. Continue with ice for 20min 4-5x a day if possible and an anti-inflammatory (like advil). It sounds like you haven't been able to allow your ankle to heal by going to work. Sprains and soft tissue injuries are slow to heal. As long as the swelling doesn't suddenly get out of control, i.e. much larger than it has been previously, you should be fine in time.
