Birth Control Pill Side Effects and Start Date?

by TeeA86, Jan 03, 2006 12:00AM
Hey. Now I know I have been posting all different kind of questions and comments.  I just got the IUD removed last week. I finally stopped bleeding this past weekend!!! Thank God. I am considering having a second child. Not sure yet, too confused. My Dr prescribed me some BC pills Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. Now when I start taking them (or if) has anyone had any effects with these pills. NOTE--I hate to bleed. Do you think it would hurt to start taking them now. On the package it says wait till the Sunday after my period to take the first one. Would it mess up my hormones if I started them now? I would think so, but just wanted to confirm or see if anyone else started pills when they were not supposed to? Also side effects? Thanks.

not to go against anyone, I do agree you 'should' follow the directions, but I dont always...I have started in the middle of a period before, becuase it will stop your period faster then waiting it out....but Im no doctor, I just know it was no problem for me.

I think you should take them on the Sunday.  Listen to the directions this way you can avoid any complications, or ask your doctor.

You should always follow the directions for medication.  I take Ortho Tri Cyclen (not lo), and I dont have heavy periods and they usually last about 4 days.  That changed for a couple of months after having a baby, but it is back to normal now.  Good luck.

I was on Depo Provera for 6 months (2 shots)and in November 04 when I was due for my third shot I decided against taking it so my OB/GYN put me on B/C pills.  Since I was getting married in December he told me to go ahead and start them right away and they would not affect me in any way.  The end of December I had AF and was regular up until August when I decided to stop taking B/C pills.  But I think you should be fine to go ahead and start taking them instead of waiting to sunday after AF.
