Birth Control Pill Side-Effects

I started taking an oral contraceptive (Yasmin21) 11 days ago on the start of my period. I was put on it to regulate my period, reduce cramping etc. but as soon as I took it, my period was intensified. I'm not sure if that is normal for the first month, but my cramping was so terrible that I had to lave class early. By the time I got home i couldn't physically stand or sit, I was getting up and down, trying to go to the washroom. I threw up 4 times, and was nauseous all week.

The blood was also a lot thicker and there was a lot more than usual, and it lasted longer. I bled for a full 7 days (I usually bleed for only 3-5), and after I stopped, there was a thick brown discharge for 2-3 days. It didn't happen today, but I had random light bleeding once during the day.

Another strange thing was that I had more cramping after the bleeding had stopped and that's never happened to me before. It was literally the worst pain I've physically been in in my life, not to mention incredibly uncomfortable for several reasons.

I basically just wanted to know if these symptoms are normal for the first week or so of being on the pill, or Yasmin specifically.

Thanks so much

Thanks,
Yeah I called my doctor after the first couple days and he told me to stay on it. But at that point I had just had the really bad cramping, so I wasn't able to mention most of it.

I took Yasmin for a month and my period was heavier and I cramped more on Yasmin, so I switched back to my normal pill, Loestrin, which works fine.  I was put on Yasmin to help with breakouts during your period.  But, I'd rather fork out the money to buy face cream than to go through the effects I had with Yasmin.  I don't know if it was a first time thing or not, but I didn't want to chance it again.

i heard that with the pill it like extends your period to 7 days? i don't kno why its just something to count when to start taking the pill again. i use allese and i just started as well. ive realy noticed the extra cramping too as well as headaches more often than usual, but my doctor said that would probably be normal for the first while. just ask the doctor who prescribed it too you
