I'll preface this with...I could be wrong...
However, I don't think that antibiotics interfere IN THAT WAY with your period. Did I misread, or did you say that this was your first week of active pills? Does this mean that this is your first month taking bc at all?
If so, it really sounds like breakthrough bleeding to me. That happens when the level of hormones is not right for your body. Every woman is different, so every pill is not right for every woman.
You need to contact the nurse on call at your docs office and ask them what to do. However, I would continue the pills as usual. You do need to let the doc know, though.
Actually I have been on BC for about three years. So its not breakthrough. I have read numerous places that antibiotics may interfere with the effectiveness of the pill, so I was just wondering if antibiotics may make the pill stop working entirely, such that I might get my period at a different schedule than normal.
MORE Generally my question is really whether or not I should continue taking the active pills even when I already have my period a week early?
I can only tell you what I would do...
I would call my doctor. They should have someone on call. You must have gotten the pills from a doc who should have a service to answer your questions on the weekends.
I hope I didn't sound degrading earlier. It's so hard to tell in these posts what people are saying. I thought you were new to the pill.
Now, they are specifically questioning whether antibiotics really interfere or not. I know there are one or two they think may interfere, but for the most part, they've about proven that to be inaccurate. Why not just call the nurse and ask? Better safe than sorry.

Good luck.
