Birth control pills and antibiotics

by dragonwilds, Sep 02, 2009 04:40PM
I have heard mixed things about antibiotics affecting the effectiveness of birth control pills. While I am fine with using a second method as a precaution while on antobiotics, no one has mentioned a withdrawal time. I have been on doxycycline for about 1 month. How long until my birth control pills are sure to be as effective as normal?
Thanks.

I have heard, but not from a doctor, that as long as you are on an antibiotic there is some chance that the birth control pill effectiveness is compromised.  Therefore, any month or partial month on the pill when you also took antibiotics would be one to use a second method of b/c.
