Black blood during menses?

Well, I found out that I am not pregnant :(  Instead, I am having a very heavy period with plenty of cramping and back pain- lucky me.  Has anyone ever experienced black blood during a period?  My period wasn't really too heavy until this morning and now it's really coming- and the tampon was literally black!  Has anyone else ever had this?

Iam having black blood and I do believe that it is due to going through the change of life. I have had very bad heavey periods so bad I would have to stay inside or call my gyn and he would schedual me for a DNC.
Now my period never stops, and I still bleed black blood I only have to wear pantie shields but I sure get the cramps when Iam due for my regular period. I havent seen red for 4months now every day black. Im scared I may have cancer what do you think?

Its normal if your period is late.  Its just old and rich blood.

I have had it a few times, don't know if it's because it's so heavy and it's older blood, but I have seen it a few times.  Hope it passes soon though, I hate heavy periods.
