Update My IUD came out after a week. I had heavy bleeding went through a pad in a couple of minutes big clots was just coming out and kept on coming. I go to pee and clots was just dropping some where big as a golf ball I guess all that clot push my IUD out,I guess i'll stick to the traditional way because theses things are not healthy for our body never again will I use contraception no thank you.
I had the hormonal IUD place inside of me on a Thursday and its been a week now and am still bleeding. Heavy period with lots of blood clot is this normal? The doctor told me i'll be spotting but this seems like am having a miscarriage.
Anyone who has long term bleeding on the copper IUD should make sure they are checked out for Pelvic Inflamatory Disease and a Cervical ectropian. Request an ultrasound to check the placement of the IUD and failing that the bleeding can actually be controlled by taking a hormonal birth controller like the pill. It may be that the copper IUD disney suit you and a hormonal IUD which is meant to reduce bleeding may be more appropriate. Hope that helps a few of you.

Sorry, I'm about 4 years late from ur comment... BUT... this is my third IUD. First two were easy with no bleeding. This one was put in two days ago and I was only having a little spotting yesterday. Today I have been bleeding so much that it went through my underwear to my shorts. I am (or was) worried that maybe I was pregnant and just had a miscarriage (although my pregnancy test at the dr's office was negative). Reason being, my husband and I had sex twice in the week before the insertion and we did the "pull out" method. When I had my first insertion after my son was born it was a breeze (actually I had an injection of anesthesia in my cervix before the procedure and it was a piece of cake) and there was no blood. Second time, 8 years later, same thing... easy. This time... different doctor, no anesthesia, hurt like HECK when being inserted, and now HEAVY BLEEDING. Perhaps it has to do with how it was inserted?!?
i had the Mirena put in 4 days ago and i just got off my period that day they they told me i will have spotting for a day or two but today i woke up w| my underwear soaked w| blood and im bleeding and clotting like im on my period again and idk if its normal im 21 w| 2 kids and dont want anymore and all other birth controls make me gain an excessive amount of weight within a weeks time so i cant go on any other birth control but hearing every ones experience with taking the Mirena out cause of the side effects after you do so with the bleeding for weeks or months on end losing alot of blood im confused im not cramping or dizzy just bleeding like im back on my period.. someone please help me out should i be worried or not should i give it more time or call my gyn asap?

Ohkay , well ive had the marina idu for about 3days now , and me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex an he came inside me!
will I get pregnat even tho I have the idu ??
I had my copper IUD inserted just over 4 weeks ago now and i too haven't stopped bleeding. But i get minimal pain. Sometimes i go a day lightly spotting (maybe a panty liner) and others a little heavier (2/3 panty liners) i also notice it more when i go the toilet. I'm also not sure if i've had a period yet.
I have an appointment at the doctors for a check up in 2 weeks time. Im going to find out if this is normal and when it will stop as its getting a little fustrating for both me and my boyfriend. Hopefully i will get some helpful news/tips.
Has it got better for you since?
I had an IUD before and never bled this much with that one but I got a new one placed and it was fine at first. Then I got a yeast infection and went to my doctors office but my dr wasn't there and a midwife checked and said that it was too low so she pushed it in further. I've been bleeding bright red blood for 8 days since that and having mild pain. I'm going to call them tomorrow. I hope its not serious but I need a dr to tell me so I'll have peace of mind. It might be normal, I don't know.
I have had the IUD for almost a year. ever since they put it in its been hurting me at first i though that was normal but now its gotten worst. i bleed everytime i have sex and my boyfriend saids he can feel it or something( u think he feels the iud?) and now im so senstive to do anything if i cough or sneeze it hurts. i need help what do you think it can be?
I had an IUD inserted 5 weeks ago and I am still bleeding. one to two panty liners a day. My husband is getting really frustrated. No pain. Should I wait one more week to see if it stops.
i had the copper iud put in last thursday and i was on my period two days before and when the iud got put in and its been a week and i am still bleeding! its real heavy and i still have sharp random pain! i have a 2 yr old and a 4 month old!
I got my copper IUD inserted March 11th of this year and I haven't stopped bleeding. I got it after I had a miscarriage. My bleeding is pretty heavy and I get pain from time to time.. I have a doctor's app. on Thursday because I don't know if this is normal any more.
I am going through the very same thing that your going through. I had the copper iud inserted 3 days ago, and I am still bleeding from it, I am not on my period, but it is almost like I am, but my cramping has decreased considerably since yesterday. I completely understand your concern, I'm currently waiting from a call from my doc. right now, but the more I read on the more this seems normal. I am 35 and have never had children. I read on a web site from a doctor over in Europe, where the iud is the most common, and he sais not to get too concerned over heavy bleeding after iud insertion, he actually said that heavy bleeding after insertion means that the iud is working, of course everyone's body will react differently, but your body should adjust to the iud over time. I see that a lot of women are having this issue, I just think it's normal. My biggest concern is that I have felt aneamic at times, that worries me a little, but I think it is normal.
If you are experiencing more than just spotting in the first day after the insertion of your IUD, call your healthcare provider. I am SO glad that I did. When my doctor found out how heavy my bleeding was (one medium pad every fifteen or twenty minutes) she insisted I come in ASAP. The clamps that they use during insertion can leave small wounds, that's where normal spotting comes from. However my cervix was especially sensitive and long story short, if I hadn't gone in when I did, I would have ended up needing a transfusion. I still have my IUD, my doctor was able to stop the bleeding. But ALWAYS call and ask.
I have had the IUD for over a year now. When I first got it I spotted at the doctors office when they inserted it. I never bled a lot with it or after. I did have irragular spotting.
Good luck with yours
I had the iud inserted 2 days ago and iam still bleeding, and have some cramps. the bleeding is lesser than the period but more than i was normally bleeding after the recent birth of my 7 week old daughter. The thing is i dont know if this is a period or not, as i didnt get my periods when i was nursing my now 2 year old son, and the doctor told me i probably wont get my period while nursing this time too. i also dont think i bleeded that much when i inserted the first iud after the birth of my first son. good to see that it is common
