Bleeding between periods

Hi, the last few days ive been having a lot of brown vaginal discharge with small clots in, and ive just popped to the loo and im bleeding quite heavily. The blood is a lot darker than a usual period, its practically black, and i only came off my period about 10 days ago so know im not due yet. I came off the contraceptive pill a few months ago and thought it was probably linked but just wanted some advice/other opinions. I dont know if its relevant but ive had a few stomach cramps the last few days (i suppose what could be period pains) and ive lost my apetite the last few weeks especially but ive also been under a lot of stress so ive lost about half a stone. I am 21 and 5 8 in height and 9 stone in weight, which still leaves me with a normal BMI. I have only had protected (by the pill) sex with my now ex boyfriend apart from the last few months when i came off the pill so we used condoms, but now that we are not together I am not sexually active. Should i be worried about the bleeding?
Thanks for your help.
