Boil on groin area

by smbxswy, Jun 16, 2007 12:00AM
I'm already extremely anxious and uncomfortable about the idea of going to the gyno.  I went last year to get a prescription for the birth control, but did not have to have the exam.  In a few months I'll have to go and actually go through with the exam.  My concern is that I've had a recurring boil (since before I was sexually active so I know it's not a std), what will my gynecologist do?  I'm scared I'll have to get surgery or something.  And also, how long does the exam take?

Hello,

First of all relax.  My guess is if the boil is present at the time of your exam, the doctor will take a culture and send it off to the lab.  Please let you doctor know if it is present.

The PAP takes about five minutes.  You may feel a little cramp when the doctor does the swab.  It's sooooo important to have regular exams.  The test can detect problems early and can be treated before they become serious and life-threatening.  I know, I'm going through it right now and am so glad I kept up with regular Paps.
