Breast tissue in underarm

I have a lump on my underarm.  It is not painful but it is ugly and it makes me very self conscious.  When I got pregnant it really got big and filled with milk my doctor said it was breaast tissue that traveled into my armpit and that as long as it didn't hurt it really wasn't anything to worry about.  It just looks like extra baggy skin and as a result I can't wear sleeveless tops.  I've never known anyone else who has this to ask what they think or feel.  My husband thinks if it bothers me so much I shyould have it removed.  I am scared and want to know what the health risks are.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Shat should I do about it?

I am shocked that this fatty tissue under my armpit actually has a real name!  Everyone has always told me it's just fatty tissue and will go away with toning my arms (I'm 5'5 and 125lbs so it's not like I'm overweight).  I'm 25 now, and I noticed it in 6th grade. My armpit always hurt around my period, and the doctor said its probably just fibroids that will go away with time.  Then, a couple of years ago, my brother-in-law (who is a doctor) noticed my armpit fat (because, who CAN'T notice!) and thought it might be an enlarged lymphnode.  Went to the gyno and she said while there is a lot of fatty tissue there, it's not the lymphnode.  My question is, why didn't she just tell me I had this axillary breast tissue?  She knew it hurts and is painful, and when I workout the armpit becomes painful from the motions of excersize....ugh drives me nuts...going to the doctor Monday, and hopefully they won't just blow me off!

Hello Everyone!

Yesterday has been a month since my post op. The tingling, and the annoying bruising has now vanished. I am able to sleep on my stomach
again, but every now and then i feel sharp pains shooting up my arm if i put my arms in certain positions. the only thing i am worried about is the swelling still under the right pit, Dr. said it will take time. Also the numbness feeling in the back of my right arm, it could be permanent the Dr. said, but i will know in due time.

This past Easter weekend  I was able to wear a sleeve less dress/shirt. and it felt good not being self-conscious. I felt really good! Feels like I'm back to having a normal body, LOL Really looking forward to the summer, will return back to bikini wear with no worries! :)

On monday 4/11/11 It'll be my second post op follow-up, It'll be my second week in a row seeing my dr. Am wondering while everyone else have a 4 week post follow up after the first...Maybe because of the swelling, I am able to sleep on my side, still expereincing numbness, tingling, and sharp pains running down to my elbow, feels like my arms been bruised, and very sore to touch. I am starting to think that i've made a mistake by getting them removed, I hate the look of my right underarm, its swelled up pretty bad, and my skin looks like it has been folded. looks weird as i look in the mirror makes me wanna break down and cry. The doctor said the numbness maybe permanent. Alot of nerve damage! I wasn't one of the lucky ones :(

I don't wanna feel like this for the rest of my life. Has anyone else been experiencing numbness at the 2week post op range? How long did it take for it to go away? The tip of my tongue is also numb, said it may come from the breathing tube pushed against it.

I am seriously getting fustrated!

Just a one week post op follow up...
I stopped covering my wounds with gauze after my doctor said I could on Wednesday. He told me to massage each scar deeply every day to avoid keloids. He also said to use Vitamin E on the scars. I still have a lot of pain sleeping on either side. I take one Lortab and it helps a lot. Another follow up with the surgeon in a month! I will post some post op pics asap!

I'm in the US, but I saw a gynecologist, a plastic surgeon, and a general practitioner.
