Brown Discharge Before Period

I see there have been quite a few posts on this, so I hope someone can help me!  Im 23 and on OrthoCyclen, and should not be getting my period for AT LEAST another wk & a 1/2.  Yesterday I noticed a brown discharge (mostly when I wiped after going to the bathroom).  There seems to be a little more of it today.

I've read that a few days before your period its normal to have some brown discharge (old blood)- and thats what it looks like to me, but is it normal this far before having your period??  Is there something else this can be attributed to??

I am sexually active and I did miss a pill or 2 this month (which I took later or the next day to catch up).  Is there a way to tell this discharge apart from implantation bleeding (just in case!!)  Also, I usually take name brand OrthoCyclen, but was given the generic brand this month (insurance reasons)- does that make a difference?

When you miss a pill or even just take one late you will often get some spotting (light bleeding) which is usually brown rather than red. It sounds like that is why because you mention taking a pill late. A generic brand is the same as the original as the active ingredients are the same, so this shouln't make a difference. Hope this helps. Sares

I don't think it's easily distinguishable at this point.  I would take hpt if you don't have anymore bleeding past your "normal" menstration date.  It could possibly be implantation bleeding...Maybe someone else knows more.
