Burning nipple pain

I am 32 years old and have had burning pain in the my right nipple for approximately the last 1.5 years. I have had all of my female organs removed over the last two years. My breast doctor placed me on Tamoxifen for the burning and pain, but it hasn't help. My right breast has always been somewhat larger then my left, but over the past few months it has grown. The burning feeling in my right nipple is so intense in the AM and in the evening. The burning has gotten so intense at times that I need to lay ice bags on my breast to try to bring the burning sensation to a tolerable level.
My mother had breast cancer twice when she was in her 40's. I am not concerned with having breast cancer as I feel that it would of been detected by now.
I was wondering if anyone could lend any suggestion as to what this could be or has anyone else ever experienced this type of burning to their nipple. At this moment the aeola seems fine, but there are weeks/months that it is very, very dry and scaley.
I am desperite for any suggestions.
Thanks

This is going to sound really weird but I have also had severe burning in my right nipple on several occasions over the last year. It seems that each time it has happened is after I have eaten pork. I am 53 years old and about a year into menopause. I do not take any hormones. I am going to give up pork for a month and see what happens. One doctor I saw suggested it was "jog bra" but I don't believe that's it.

I actually experience this burning nipple pain every month within 10 days before my period is supposed to start. I'm only 24 so menopause is definitely out of the question. I've always thought this is one of my PMS symptoms...

I have this problem too, im only 24, and in the last week, i've been getting a extreme burning pain in my left nibble which then spreads to the whole breast lasting about a minute, i've never had pain like it, It's wierd because sometimes i can touch it and its fine, no pain, other times i only have to slightly touch it and i end up crouching in pain. I went to the doctors and all i got was, "take pain killers for two weeks, I don't see any problem, if it gets worse in 2 weeks come back" Nice ey? and since then its getting worse, it now wakes me up in the night when i roll over, i dont even have to be laying on it, just the movement of rolling over sets it off. I just don't know what to do :(

I am currently going through the same thing, AM,PM, laying on side, after drinking caffeine, alcohol, and being in the sun. I also do the ice bags. I spoke to my doctor and she wants me to get test for Pagets Disease which is cancer of the nipple and is detected by a Diagnostic Mammo and Ultra sound. she said a reg. mammo won't detect it. I'm have my appt for next week to get mammo/us done. hope it goes well.

I am also having this burning pain in my left nipple for a couple of days now (nearly one week). No idea what it is, or could be, which is how I ended up here. I too am uninsured and cannot afford costly medical exams only to be told they don't have an answer but here's some pills you can take. No thank you! By the way, I am only 28, nearing 29 so menopause is out of the equation. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

hi, i have had the same problem with the intense burning in my nipples. it is usually in one or the other but sometimes it is in both at the same time. I have had GB attacks, kidney stones, cuts and bruises, torn ligaments and broken bones, dislocated shoulder and migraines. I have been thrown off a mule and rolled down a mountain..and never cried..This burning makes me cry!!! I would rather go thru any of these on a daily basis than this dad burn burning in my nipples. It has been going on for a couple of years now. sometimes lasting a few minutes to hrs. I have a lot of education in the medical field, I have been a Registered Radiology tech for over 10 yrs. I have had access to multiple Drs. both free and paid for.. The best answer any of them have come up with was that it is due to hormone fluctuation. This does make some sense because it only started about the time I became premenopausal and it is worse around my period time. They also found a small tumor on my  thyroid gland, which relates to hormones. While this does alleviate concerns for my health... it certainly does not help the pain!! gosh sometimes i would like for them to just cut my nipples off!! I was prescribed lortabs years ago for the pain in my back, due to degenerative disk disease. I do not like to take ny meds especially pain meds. I am able to keep up with lite exercise and mentally control the back pain.. but there is no mental control for this burning.. I have been taking lortabs every 12 hrs for the past week to alleviate the pain from my breast nipples. I hate it but it works... so far. I have been married for 4 months and I feel for my  new husband.. it seems too soon to be bringing these kind of problems onto him.. i have been on Cymbalta for over a yr for depression. It has never helped my breast pain. Thanks for the posts and information my prayers are with all of you.

been on cymbalta for a year now....white blood cell count when high means usually your immune system is trying to fight something which can be real or your system just attacking itself....I know; I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia which has all the docs confused and trying to tell us it is all in our heads...just started having pain in my nipples January 2009 and now I wonder what mental problem the docs are going to try to come up with because they cannot find the answers to our physical issues.

Hi there, well went to see the new doctor, I really like him, he is really interested in what is wrong with me and says he will research and do test until he finds out what's wrong.  He ordered more blood work, another mammogram, and put me on cymbalta--he says that will help with the pain, and mood swings, I sure hope so I don't know how my husband and kids have put up with me the last 17 months, I have been a total nut case with all this pain and burning.  So still don't really know anything right now, except that my white blood count was high, so he had it done again to see if it's still high, I go back to see him Sept. 20th.  So I guess until then I just have to keep taking all these pills they keep shoving done my throat.  Hope you are having some luck with your situation.  Good luck

Thanks for your reply. Goodluck tomorrow at your doctors appointment. I wish I could help you, since the doctors that I see all think that I should have a medical degree...ha ha!! I actually have a Law Degree, but I guess that doesn't help much...does it? Goodluck and keep me posted..please on what your doctor tells you. I think that any information that us woman care share with one another can only help us. Once again...Goodluck and I wish you good news. Remember to have a positive attitude.

I know what you mean, I think every dr. I have seen expects me to know what they are talking about, my favorite one is when they walk into the room and ask me WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU? Hello if I knew that for one I wouldn't be here and two I would have md after my name.  Glad to hear that yours is a medicne problem, I know it doesn't help much but I have been trying to find out what is going on with me for 17 months now.  I wish mine was a prescription problem, they have tried that also, they took me off my estrogen, and still no releif, they have done everything, differnet types of antibiotics, pain meds, neurotin, prednisone, you name it and I think I have taken it over the last 17 months, and nothing works, they gave me a shot of morphine and it didn't touch the burning pain which now has spread to my back, it is horrible, you can't live a functinal life, and I have even had doctors tell me it's all in my head, so hopefully the dr I see tomorrow can help me out.  As for you I think I would rather have hot flashes than the burning, as I know what you are going thru, I have hot flashes that just soak me, but I also have the burning I would gladly have the hot flashes than the burning pain, but right now I am stuck with both......good luck to you.

Thanks for your comment/response. My doctor at the Cleveland Clinic looked at my medication list and noticed that I was taking a estrogen medication while I was on Tamoxifen. Therefore the Tamoxifen wasn't doing anything at all as the estrogen was making the Tamoxifen "disfunctional". CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT? My GYN places me on estrogen while knowning that my breast doctor has placed me on Tamoxifen. You would think that my GYN would of known that, but I guess not. The Cleve. Clinic doctor acted like I should of known that also...hello..I don't have MD after my name. I now have a decision to make I have to go off one or the other. I have to live with hot flashes or burning breast pain. It is not a easy decision, as you already know as you are living with the burning pain.
To answer your question. I have been on Neurontin before for another medical issue, but I have to be honest I wasn't on it during the time I had this pain. Maybe when I see my doctor the next time I will suggest it. It couldn't hurt. Thanks for the suggestion. Good Luck with everything.

WAS JUST READING YOUR POST, I HAVE HAD THE SAME THING SINCE MARCH OF 2005.  IT IS HORRIBLE, IT HAS JUST DRAINED ME, I HAVE SEEN ALMOST 50 DIFFERENT DOCTORS SINCE THIS STARTED, AND HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH 20 DIFFERENT THINGS, BUT ALL THE DIAGNOSIS ARE WRONG AND ALL THE TEST ARE NEGATIVE....MAMMAGRAM, BLOOD WORK, FINE NEEDLE ASPIRATION, ALL THEY DO IS SHOVE MEDICINE DOWN MY THROAT.........AS FOR THE BURNING ASK YOUR DR ABOUT NEUROTIN, I HAVE BEEN TAKING IT FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS NOW AND IT DOES HELP WITH THE BURNING...DOESN'T TAKE IT COMPLETLY AWAY BUT GOOD ENOUGH WHERE YOU CAN HAVE SOME RELEIF.....SO WHAT DID CLEVELAND CLINC HAVE TO SAY ABOUT YOUR CASE?  I HAVE ANOTHER APPT. THE 23RD WITH OF COURSE A DIFFERENT DR.......BUT HOPEFULLY ONE OF THESE DAYS ONE OF THEM CAN HELP ME......GOOD LUCK TO YOU..

Thanks for your comment/reply. I actually just made an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic breast center for next week. I still trust my doctor in my hometown, but I have always had goodluck with the Cleveland Clinic. Like I stated before I don't feel anything is seriously wrong, but I need something to majorly stop the pain and burning. Thank you again for your care and concern. I will keep you posted on anything new.

Have you talked to your Doctor about this. I haven't been through anything like this, and wish I could help you as it sounds pretty painful, but you need to speak with your doctor. Especially the dry and scaly skin you're having on the breast, what I have read that's not a good sign. I don't believe it's breast cancer but it is some other pretty serious condition that it could be. I would not hold back on getting an appointment especially with all you've been through. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us updated!
