CA-125 screening tool???

by ALybella, Jan 19, 2007 12:00AM
My mom went to the gynocologist for her yearly checkup.  She is 55 years old.  They sent her for a pelvic ultrasound, (every year) and a CA-125.  Is this typical screening for a post menopausal women, or do they only sent the CA-125 when they suspect something.

I am really worried about her now.  She claimed that they said her ovaries felt fine.

ANyone have a clue??

ANy comments would be appreciated.

Thank you

Is there a history of cancer in your family?  If so, that may be the reason they ordered the test.  The doctors around here do not use it routinely if there is not a history or they don't suspect something.  When it comes back within normal range it will ease both of your minds.  It is a great tool at catching cancer early, sounds like she has a great doc!!!! Good luck

As with any test, the waiting is the hardest.  Try and stay positive for your mom.  Don't worry about anything until you get the results back (I know. It's easier said than done).  There is probably nothing to worry about.
That being said, even if it was something, the test is a good way to catch it early so either way she's on the right path.
Good luck to you both.
