CIN2 - should I be worried?!

Hello!
I have one question. Is CIN2 dangerous and could it mean that it will for sure turn into cancer?!
I had PAP test done last week and my gyno called me yesterday and told me that I have some changes and that the PAP test showed CIN2, some virus infection he said. He suggested that I do one more PAP after one month and biopsy and he said that I have nothing to be scared about. I have never had positive PAP test and the last test I did was one year ago and everything was ok. I had laparothomy in April 2013 (cysts and endo on left ovary) and before the procedure I did all the tests (including HPV test) and I had nothing, everything was ok. I am scared and I don't know what to expect, because this is new for me. I read about CIN2 and similar on the Internet, but I don't exactly understand everything and I am confused. So, if anyone had some similar experience or knows little bit more about this, please write to me.
Thank you in advance!

Hi,
CIN 2 is a pre-cancerous lesion of the cervix. However if treated properly it need not progress to cancer. Cervical cancer is slowly progressing cancer and gives adequate time for appropriate treatment.
Repeat Pap test and colposcopy can be done for confirmation of the diagnosis. An excisional biopsy can be diagnostic as well as curative for CIN. Another option is the LEEP procedure.
The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.

I was diagnosed with CIN1 and CIN2 a week ago. My gyno said he will perform a LEEP to treat abnormal cells I have. He said he can't do this until December. I am afraid it will get worse if I would wait that long. Also how effective is LEEP?  I am also diagnosed with HPV which was the reason of the abnormal pap. When I get the LEEP, do abnormal cells come back because of the presence of hpv?

Hello again!
I just wanted to let you know that I did another PAP and after that biopsy and the results came positive - I have CIN3! My gyno said that he can remove the cells by ultrasound conization (LEETZ) and that four weeks after the procedure I can go back on track with solving infertility. In meanwhile I am working on my immune system, so I hope that at the end everything will be ok! Another interesting fact is that my period is one week late, and it's the first time to not have my period for over 35 days since the previous one. I wll wait couple of days more and I will do a blood test for pregnancy. I asked my gyno what if am I pregnant, and he said that he can controll the CIN3 for those nine months and after that he will do conization. So, I hope that if I am pregnant (it will be a miracle for sure), the CIN3 wouldn't get worse for those nine months and that I will solve it after that!
Thank you again for your answers to my post and for the support!
Have a nice day and take care!

Thank you so much for your answers to my post! They were very helpful! I will do another PAP and colposcopy and biopsy for sure, but my gyno said I should wait one month, he said that there should be one month period of time between the two PAPs. But I wanted to learn more about this before I do another PAP, because it's one month and I couldn't wait so long to find out more about these things. Now is more clear to me, thanks to you! Thank you again so much! I will let you know how the examinations went and how are the results. I hope that everything is going to be all right, especially that I do regular examinations and PAP tests and in the last 10 years I haven't had any signs of something like this! I just have one more question about this: "Cervical cancer is slowly progressing cancer and gives adequate time for appropriate treatment". If there is cancer and it is treated properly and cured on time, how big are the chances that it will come back at some point? Is it like other types of cancer that are agressive and returnable or it's less agressive? Thank you in advance!

Hello,
A PAP smear can only indicate the presence of abnormal cells and does not indicate the level of CIN. Guidelines state that every woman who is diagnosed with HSIL/CIN2 by Pap smear should be followed up by colposcopy and biopsy. If PAP is normal but HPV is present it means that you have the HPV virus, but no cell changes were seen on your Pap test. In that case a repeat PAP is done but if it shows changes or still HPV is present then it needs further evaluation.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
