Can you become pregnant with an IUD inserted and still be having heavy periods

i am having a problem I have three childern, I am also so very young and had a paragaurd IUD in place after my third child becaude the doctors would not tie my tubes. I enjoy being a mother but I am feeling like I may be pregnant again. My feelings in the past has always been right. I could tell I was pregnant before the pregnant test showed I was.  The thing is  my last period was unusally light and this month it is increasingly heavy to the point I think they may be something wrong because I have never had a period that is this heavy .

I have the same cycle as you and I also have a paragard IUD. I am concerned that I may be pregnant too. My last period began on 1/31/14 and the one before was1/4/14. I was feeling major pregnancy symptoms around new years, and in the middle of January. When I took a test it was negative in January. Now I'm hesitant to take another one or to even take this concern to the dr. What where your results?

Wow twins, now that is a blessing from God! I too am a firm believer that things happen for a reson :)

I have the copper t iud and have had it for a little over a year now. I had my period at the beging of january, and I just started again at the end of january. For this pass month now I have been salivating (like you would before being sick) off and on everyday, I feel strain when I pick up and have my youngest son up, and there one day I had to go out and my oldest son started crying after my, and he's never done that! My husband and I also find me to be more moody too, but I do not have sore breasts. I am now waiting for my blood test to come back to see for sure if I may be pregnant. A little girl would be awesome :)

Hey everyone..anyone with updates? Please post! Here's my story..and warning..this involves TMI! Background first..I am currently on Paraguard IUD, for the last yr and a half..I'm 32, have 3 boys, ages 13, 10, and 2. Here goes: My periods were like clock work starting at the beginning of every month for 5-7 days. The month of June my period came on time, was of normal timing, flow, everything..then 3 weeks later I get a 2nd period (VERY abnormal for me)..the first day was spotting pink, the next 2 days, nothing..UNTIL my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex, then more pink spotting on the 3rd day, on the 4th day the flow was heavier AND there were clots about as big as ping pong balls (along with the heavy flow) that lasted for 2 days straight. Here it is the 10th day on my period and I'm spotting pink again..in between the first day of my LMP and up until today, I've had crazy pregnancy symptoms..my stomach has kind of bloated up/swollen up-but it doesn't feel like bloatedness..more like a fullness, headaches, dizzy, fatigue, hungry all the time (when normally I eat twice a day), pain in the L side of my abdomen, cramps for about 4 hours straight a few days ago and now more recently, have had increased urination. I have been to the Dr..she gave me a urine test and blood test for pregnancy and both have come back negative, she sent me for an ultrasound and I haven't yet gotten the results back BUT the ultrasound tech, although I know she isn't supposed to tell me anything about the exam, told me that she didn't see any cysts or fibroids, that my uterus is tilted and that my IUD is still in the correct spot. Although she told me those things, she followed it up with "I'm not supposed to talk to you about the exam".  I did glance at the screen when the tech was doing the ultrasound and I seen what looked to be like an empty sac (I seen my 2 yr old's empty sac when I was pregnant with him-It was too early to see the actual fetus)..then when the tech went to do the vaginal ultrasound, she moved the screen up closer to her to where I couldn't see the screen..tell me that's not a classic sign of something going on.. So..I don't know if I'm ready to accept that I'm pregnant..I'm in the state of mind where I need to hear it from a professional (even though I know I could very well be pregnant and the tests keep coming back negative..so I'm not wasting money on HPT) and I'm in my 2nd month of nursing school and just started a new job a couple months ago..my boyfriend tells me that we'll get through it together but he's voiced his opinion on not wanting anymore children as he has 3 children from prior relationships. Anyhow, has anyone else with the Paraguard experienced 2 periods in one month with the 2nd period being all wacky, then started having pregnancy symptoms???? Please respond. Thanks. #Scots-IrishMomma#

Yes I have!   I am completely stumped. I am 49 year old mother of 4.  Oldest 25,youngest 11.   I have paragard iud that is 10 years old and due to be removed/replaced in January 2019. I thought I was nearly menopausal with a few heavy heavy periods in a row. Period has been closer together for a while like three weeks apart.   I have never been a heavy bleeder or suffered much with cramps before.  For close to a week now I have been cramping and my breasts are tender.  I have had a little nausea and increased hunger.  I took HPT today and results are negative. Holy **** I can’t be pregnant!  I’m almost a grandma!!  I’m very concerned because cramping is unusual for me even on my period!  Anybody that can Please give response !!??   I have appointment with my OB/GYN in a few days. Wow am I nervous!
Hey there----  ask your doctor about an ovarian cyst. These can happen from time to time and often cause symptoms like you describe!  Let me know what the doctor says!

What IUD do you have in place? If it's the Mirena (I'm assuming it is) it's likely due to the hormones in the IUD causing them. Mirena is well known to cause symptoms very similar to pregnancy, and if it's still in place then pregnancy would be very unlikely. If a blood test came back negative, you can assume you're not pregnant. This is just because it would have picked up the hormone if what you're feeling really was pregnancy.

Hi I also have the IUD and have 3 children and I am experiencing pregnancy symptoms also. I so believe that I am I went to the Dr yesterday and they did a pregnancy test by drawing blood cause the home preg test was negative.  Well I'm waiting on the nurse to call me with the results on that test, He also did other test too he said that my thyroid or a brain tumor not cancerous could cause these symptoms. Well I just pray that I am prego instead of anything else wrong with me. Hope I was helpful for you and hope all goes well with you.

I too have the Mirena IUD and have had it for 3 years. I think if a pregnancy makes it after the IUD is removed the baby will be fine.

I have not had a regular period since I have had the IUD and am currently experiencing swollen genitals, extreme exhaustion, breast tenderness, and even leaky breasts. I am a mother of two and wonder if the leaky breasts is normal, something just left over from my youngest, he is 3?! I took a pregnancy test and it was negative, but I just don't feel quite right. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I currently have a IUD (Mirena) inserted I've had it now for about 6months. I would like to know if you could become pregnant with this inserted and actually have the baby without any Mental problems and just any problems in general

I have had an IUD for a year now and have never been pregnant before, but lately I have gained weight, have constant cravings for salt, can't seem to get out of bed in the morning, have insane mood swings, and the strangest part is for the past couple of days I have been having these horrible dizzy spells. I keep having normal periods and have suffered from depression in the past so I didn't think much about it until the dizzy spells started. I just came off Lexapro (anti-depressant) a few weeks ago so I am guessing these symptoms could be attributed to that, but in the back of my mind I am terrified that I could be pregnant.

I have had an IUD for three years and have always been regular. Last month I missed my period and still havent gotten it. I have taken a couple pregnancy tests but they say negative. Is this normal has anyone else had this probelm or is it still to early to tell if I am pregnant? A lot of places that I have read most women with the IUD found out they were pregnant after six weeks. I have a three year old daughter which I conceived during my period. So could it be just to soon to tell? Please help.

Hello,
My name is Holly. I am 20 years old. I am planning on going off the pill (i have been on it for 3 years now) in November. I hope to get pregnant right away so I can give the news to my in-laws and my parents as an xmas gift. Do people usually have problems conceiving the first few months they go off the pill? How does it work? I also want to lose weight before I have a baby. As it is I am not comfortable in my skin. If anyone has suggestions or would like to chat, please email me at butterfly_baybee2005***@**** I will respond to everyone!
Also, will you only conceive on certain days of the month? I can use as much information as I can

It could be that you were pregnant but lost it due to the IUD. Perhaps that's why the heavy bleeding. I have heard that can happen, but I'm only speculating. Post again when you find out. Good luck.

Like Cinn, mine have always been right.  They are pretty accurate.  If you missed your period wait a week just to see.  Good Luck to you.

yes, I am waiting.  I took one on Monday, the day my period was due, and it was negative.  So I felt relieved knowing the answer and went about my business.  I thought my period would show up because I'm a 28-day girl right on the money, but now I'm still waiting.  No sign of it.  I did not use first morning pee though, I did it in the afternoon and I'm an H20-holic so it was pretty diluted.  I trust those tests but I was reading through the archives here and got freaked out.  We did the pull-out method twice during my fertile time b/c hubby got overzealous and we didn't have any condoms - I warned him!  So that's where my concern lies.

Very rarely is a period the same every month unless you are on BC or regulated with hormones, so I would wait until you are week late to take a test.  There are just too many independent variables to a cycle.

No mine were always right if I was late with a period
Now I never tested right on period day or one day later
Have you missed one yet?? Maybe jumping the gun.
