Can't get rid of this discharge-dont think its YI or BV

Hi all...

Just a little background on my situation before I ask this question.  Since about last September, I've been having this discharge (like a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis) sometimes it's thicker and whiteish yellow, other times it's thin and almost clear.  Also, sometimes it's a little itchy and sometimes it isn't at all.  My periods were a little screwed up in October, November, and my last one in December was weird because it was almost completely dark brownish/almost black discharge the whole time (lasted about 4 days, which is short for me).

So I was on the 7-day treatment for a yeast infection, then the treatment for bacterial vaginosis, and then another treatment for YI, but nothing has worked.  Does anyone know what could be going on?  I've been to the nurse practitioner at my university, which is where I got the treatment for the BV and the second treatment for YI but she doesnt's seem to have the time or interest to figure this out.  Any advice would be helpful...thank you.

I have had the same problem exactly, the very dark discharge during my period scared the **** out of me... but I just got my period this month and so far fairly normal... thank goodness.  from searching online I've come to assume that it is BV... I have been loading up on acidophilus (lactobacullus) and folic acid vitamins... also drinking a lot of organic cranberry juice and doing the hydrogen peroxide ******... all of which have helped so much... I am down to occasional discharge but nothing near what it was... I have to see my gyno in January so I am going to talk to her about it just to be safe... really true the supplements above as I do think they help and are not that outlandishly priced. Good luck :)

i have never had BV but i have had yeast infections (both mild and severe). my own experience is that when i have one, i do feel as if i have to pee A LOT. im "tiny tank" to begin with but i feel as if i have to go shortly after i just went with a yeast infection.

i would go back to the dr/RN on campus (someone else this time) and see if you have a bladder infection because you very well could. if not, i would have them test you again for bv or yeast. some people just respond better to the pill form, or cream. even the 7 day treatment opposed to the 3 day treatment, different brands... maybe thats why it didnt work. OR it didnt work because thats not what you have.
make one more appt. okay?

Thanks for responding!  I am on BC (ortho lo) but no medications.  I recently changed my diet because I heard on this forum that someone who has too much candida in their body should try to eliminate yeast, flour, sugar, etc.  But I didnt start that until about the week before Christmas and this has been going on since last September.
When I went to the health clinic on campus the nurse practitioner gave me the BV medication after I told her what was going on.  She said it would help.  It didn't. Also, when I got the results of my pap back, the NP said there was some yeast, which is why she gave me the yeast medication. It didn't help either.  So now I'm not sure what to do.
Anyway, I was thinking along the same lines as the poster above about a bladder infection, but I'm not sure if there's some different form of yeast infection or bv that could cause me to feel like I have to pee again right after I go.

you didnt say if you were on any medications and/or birth control? new/different diet? those can effect/upset our normal cycles and cause our discharge to be different. i know this is weird but if i eat a LOT of carbs, my discharge is pastey and smells different. are you sexually active? use condoms? where were you on the night of..LOL
also are you 100% you were treating a yeast infection? are you 100% you were treating BV? you may not have either? i dont know the severity of your itching and whether or not you experienced any redness, inflamation, "cottage cheese" discharge, or strong fishy odor down there but you kind of described "normal" discharge. we all have it and it does come out (wetness in the underwear)watery sometimes and other times thicker and/or stickier like when you are ovulating. some of us are "wetter" producing a lot or a little.
sometimes it does just get itchy down there! for ex: if discharge comes out and you just cant wipe at the time so it kind of sits there. take a moment and think of other things that you use like laundry detergents, scented toilet papers..
i remember i used this one perfumy soap and 1,it made it smelly down there and 2, it made me itch like the yahoos!
just on a daily basis, be sure the area is clean, use a mild soap and thats it. try to avoid bath/shower gels, no douches, and try to avoid the pantyliners. those can trap the wetness and can create an odor.
i dont know, im not in your shoes so im not fully aware of what you are experiencing but my guess its your own body's way of "housekeeping" and you are over-treating it. then again, i dont want to suggest that and have you ignore it if it is indeed a concern. cant you call the dr. office again and either request someone else (im sure that RN is not the only one there) or go to another place like a local planned parenthood?

The only thing I can think of is trichomonas.  Usually when you have trich you have a yellow discharge and sometimes an itch.  I would ask your NP about that.

Also, I thought I should mention that the best way I can think to describe this feeling is "leaking"...for lack of a better description, it almost feels like I'm peeing myself.  And when I do go to the bathroom to pee, immediately after I go, I feel like I could go again.  But when I try, nothing happens.  I don't know if that's related or not but I thought I would add it.  Thank you for any advice.
