Clomid at 1st appt?

Clomid at 1st appt?

I am scheduled to see an RE for the 1st time on Tuesday.  I have already had b/w, u/s and Dh had an SA and all were normal, except a small functional cyst that was found on my rt. ovary.  I can already tell from my temps and very irregular cycles that I don't O.  Last month my temps showed an O date, but I don't believe.  I never had the appropriate CM or a + OPK.  This month I don't have any indications of O.  I am wondering, is it too premature for me to ask for clomid and would you ask for it?  We have been TTC since March, but really "trying" since June - so a total of 10 cycles with no BFP's.  Just want some opinions about what I should ask for at my appt.  I have to travel 2 hours one way to see the RE and I want to do all I can to really be proactive about getting pregnant.  Thanks.
Mollie

Ask for clomid, if you think it will help you. If the dr doesn't think it's right for you they will tell you. Has your partner been tested? I went through yrs of ttc only to find out after the clomid and hormone shots, that it wasn't me.

It seems to me that Clomid gets handed out like candy - if you want it, I am sure your doctor will give you some. (And often, it's the first course of treatment doctors try).

Might be different here - I know of many gals who were given clomid before they even did any fertility testing which I thought was extremely ill-advised...

actually my dr tried everything else including surgery before i went on clomid. The thing about clomid is a woman can only take so much in her lifetime and once she reaches that amount that's it.

You may want to ask the RE about Femara along with Clomid. They're both supposed to do similar things but one may be preferred over the other. The Clomid dried up my CM severely and nothing could remedy that. And you do need CM to conceive. My OB/GYN put me on Clomid after my m/c on 09/07/2005, when I started ttc again and not O'ing for 5 months. And I was not tested (other than a simple ultrasound) prior to Clomid nor was I monitored during the 5 months I took it other than a blood draw for progesterone 5-6 days after O'ing each month. Even though I kept telling my OB/GYN that I practically had no CM, they still kept me on Clomid for 4 months after. Obviously, it didn't work. So, I finally decided to go to an RE on my own. He decided to put me on Femara for the first month and suggested (if the Femara didn't work) an HSG test and Femara and IUI combined procedure afterwards. He's stated that statistically, fertility drugs alone have a low rate of success, whereas if you use the drug along with a procedure, like IUI, would increase your chance of conceiving successfully. I haven't taken my 1st Femara dosage yet but I'm hoping it'll work. I'm 37 and don't have the time to keep trying different methods. But I do wish you lots of luck with your RE and hope he/she is able to help!
