Hi there!

Secondary amenorrhea or delayed periods could occur due to a few causes such as stress or a recent weight change, gynaecological pathology, anovulatory cycles, hormonal imbalance, PCOD, anemia, infections, systemic abnormalities, thyroid imbalances etc. just to name a few. Delayed periods for 2-3 weeks should not be a reason for alarm, since most of the time it is stress caused. In the event of an unprotected sexual intercourse, you may consider taking a pregnancy test atleast 3 weeks after the episode since early tests have a high chance of false negativity. Also, if the periods are delayed by more than 2-3 months in the event of a pregnancy test being negative, I would suggest seeing a gynaecologist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
Hope this helps.

Take care!
