Could it be pubic lice?

I didn't ask this in the Sexual Health section because I've never had sex. Here's the scenario:

Summer of '09 I had this itch in my genital area. Not on the lips, clit, but the flat part directly below the abdomen. It was only in one region (left side). Then there was a brief period following that where there were a few sensitive, transclusent bumps. I can't remember if they were the size of an upper/lower case "oO" on your keyboard. I ended up popping at least one by accident because they were so sensitive. I believe some kind of clear liquid came out.

Every so often I come across strands of hair with tan stuff on it. They are about the size of a  " * " or a bit bigger. I don't need a magnifying glass to see them. If I bend down and look I can see them and there are always very very few. When I try to get them off I usually end up pulling out the whole strand of hair because often times they are at the very bottom of the hair strand. Rarely are they ever in the middle and almost never have they been at the tip. And rarely do they ever slide off. That is weird for me because I have almsot never been able to pull out a strand of hair in my genital region. For one it hurts but when I pull out hair strands with these things on it, it doesn't hurt. These are not the things that you see on the end of a hair shaft.

99% of the time there is only one on a strand. I've come across probably less than ten since last summer. They are not gooey/gel-like, are solid, opaque, and remind me of crust. They are not always perfectly shaped and are not always oval. Back at home, I do have one for evidence. I looked at in a magnifying glass and it is no different than what it looks like w/o a magnifying glass. I saw no translucent outer layer. I have kept it for months and the tan stuff is still there as it first was. Could it be shells/molting?

There have been two or three times where I was able to pull off some kind of "skin scab" on my crotch. These too were rather small and painless and once again in that same region.

I did research on pubic lice, checked out pictures of nits, etc. While I do have some of the vague symptoms, the "crust" on these peices of hair do not bare close enough resemblance to make a positive identifcation. I do not have any particular itching at night. No visible red bumps. I have not been in contact w/ anyone else's clothes or blankets. I was in college until May of '09 (toilet seat contraction is a myth correct? Even so I always used toilet paper around the seat) but did not have any itching until maybe July of that year. However, I am starting to get worried that whatever is going on w/ my groin area may be spreading to my underarm area but that could be paranoia.

Because I am of a much darker skin complexion than the people available in pictures online, it makes it a bit harder to clearly see everything going on. Any ideas what can be going on with me? If it's not pubic lice then what could it be? It doesn't seem to be as bad as it was before but I still need to know. Of course I am hoping to get the advice of my doctor or a gynecologist (when I get one) but I just want some ideas and I'll do the rest, including further research.

My apolagies for not having a picture of what I'm dealing with handy. I'm not at home right now and I haven't seen any of the crust-stuff today to take off. If I see one in the following days, I'll pluck it out attached on a hair strand and post a picture if anyone wouldn't mind.

Thanks in advance

Wow, I had no idea I wrote so much. I just looked at some nit on the eyelashes of a person on youtube and what I saw looks absolutely nothing like that nit.

jelyse, I have never had oral sex either. I'm hoping that the next time I go to a doc/gyno, I'll have one in a ziploc bag so they can I.D. under a microscope or something

Iam assuming that if this was pubic lice it would be very itchy and i dont think they would be restricted to one area. As it is though i have never had it so im not sure. And since you have never had sex it definately would suggest that this isnt pubic lice. Have u ever had oral sex? This could be some kind of skin or fungal infection. A doctor really needs to look at this because self diagnosing yourself witth the internet just dosent work
