Diane 35 and hair loss

by moonflower13, May 22, 2008 03:19PM
Hello!

I've been on the contraceptive pill Diane 35 for about 4 years, and discontinued use about five months ago. Also was down with a bad case of influenza about three months ago. For about two weeks now I've been experiencing severe hair loss, which is scaring me off since I've always had a lot of hair, and never had the slightest loss problem.

I've been doing a little online search (not always a good idea, I know...) and I've come across contradictory testimonies: some women say that it was being on the pill that caused them hair loss (although for me it was quite the contrary, my hair had never looked better!), others told similar experiences to mine, but (what has worried me most now) said that for some women, the hair never goes back to the status that it was before starting on the pill.

If anyone could tell me their experience and, if possible, something positive, I would be very thankful. This hair loss is making me very anxious and upset.

Thanks in advance!

I stopped Diane 35 after 10 years of being on it. And I started to get severe hairloss 2 weeks after. I lost 500 strands of hair every day and it has dwindled down to about 200 strands a day after 6 months. It hasn't stopped.

There may be regrowth, but it cannot catch up with the loss.

Diane35 is a scary pill. I cannot believe my Dr let me take it for 10 years.

I am posting as much as I can now so that other women can be warned of the side effects. It is not a pill that we can take forever, yet when we stop, the effects are horrifying.
