Discharge

I should completely know the answer to this since I have a lot of children... but I have a quick question.

I am 42, so I really do not want to get pregnant again. My periods are so regular that normally by the night of the 30th day if I haven't started - I know I'm pregnant.

But... I am a week overdue. I would automatically assume I'm pregnant except that when dh and I were intimate we used a condom before he was "finished". This is what we have always done except for the times we wanted to get pregnant.

I had my normal pms symptoms... headache, backache, breakout (except not nearly as bad as usual),and then everything suddenly stopped. The only thing I notice now is that while I am normally quite dry right before my period, tonight I had very thick vaginal discharge...almost like when you lose your mucus plug. Does this happening usually point towards or away from pregnancy?

Of all times my vehicle is out of commision for a few days and I live 20 miles out of town. I will get an HPT as soon as I can but in the mean time this will drive me nuts!!!

Thanks in advance for your help!

At 42 you are not too young to develop menopausal symptoms. As I mentioned in a previous post, a girlfriend of mine (who is 35) is now in peri-menopause with the first symptom being longer gaps between periods. It sounds like you couldn't really be pregnant so I would consider this as a possibility.

Thanks for your reply. I am HOPING that you are right. My mother actually went through early menopause (32)but hers was because of a tubal pregnancy. I wouldn't mind menopause since I feel that I am done having children (I have 9!). Why go through the pain of periods when you don't need 'em right?

I've got a friend picking a test up for me today just to be safe (I'm on a medication that I wouldn't want to take during pregnancy so I've quit but would like to re-start.)

I guess the whole mucus thing confused me because I usually have the opposite problem right before AF.

Thanks again!
