Does discharge smell?

I have been discharging more than usual and my underwear is always wet and uncomfortable. The discharge also smells and I don't like it. I am 13 so I don't know if it is a puberty problem. Please give me advice. Thank you

I'm 14, and I also have usual amounts of discharge and it's very uncomfortable. It smells awful too, it kinda smells like bleach to me. I don't know how to describe it other than that. Don't worry about if;)

If the discharge is really, really smelly, not just a little sour, but like old dead meat that has been left out of the refrigerator, that is a hallmark of an infection called bacterial vaginitis.  BV is something to be confirmed by a doctor and treated with antibiotics.  But I would guess you don't have that.  For normal smells that are associated with vaginal secretions and the vulva, the best bet is to use a panty liner (especially around the time of ovulation, when your vaginal secretions get thicker and more copious) and to change it every time you go to the loo.  If you were to get a package of "natural" type baby wipes (ones with no noxious chemicals), and keep it in the bathroom, and every time you pee you wipe with one, and then put in a fresh panty liner, I would bet the next time there would be no smell.

Another way to tell if you have an infection of any kind versus just the interaction of urine, sweat and vaginal secretions (which can toss off a slightly sour smell), is to check after a bath.  Once you know your whole vaginal area is totally clean, put a Q-tip into your vagina, and swish it around, and then smell it.  Most likely it will smell like clean cucumbers, not sour at all.  The smells that accumulate in the fleshy part of the vaginal lips usually come from outside, not from the secretions themselves.
