Eating disorder recovery

Eating disorder recovery

I was wondering the following: I have had trouble with eating disorders since around the age of thirteen... I am 25 now and still slightly underweight [not intentionally... I am trying].  I seemingly "skipped" puberty in outward physical sense and basically did not develop at all.  When I continue to gain weight will this be corrected or am I doomed in my thirteen year old body forever?
Thanks for your help.

Good luck with your recovery!!

I would think that once you start resuming a normal healthy eating habit your body will catch up.  You will probably have to gain a lot more weight before you notice a difference.   Is this something that you spoke to your doctor about??

Good luck, and Congratulations!!

I know when I gained weight on the Depo shot my boobs got bigger and then got smaller as I lost the weight, but now Im pregnant and they are big again.  Once you gain the weight I would think your body would distribute it out into the areas you need. But ask you Dr what they think.

I am 27 and have had an eating disorder for 11 years. Over the last year I have recovered. I completely understand what you are going through and I hope that your eating disorder is in your past and that you are doing well. It took me a long time to realize that beening thin does not make you a more beautiful person. My eating disorder was so bad and I was so thin that I could never have a period unless I took birth control pills- the only reason for taking birth control was to have a period not to prevent pregnancy. After recovering, I finally got my periods back- It's been about 6 months since they come regularly. It only took gaining 20 pounds which was hard for me to deal with but my husband and I really want to have a child and if gainging weight will allow me to become a mom and my husband a new dad it is all worth it. To answer your question- my husband and I have been together since I was 16 and he has been there through my disorder. Since I have gained a little weight I actually have boobs now which I never had for the last 11 years. To overcome my eating disorder was probably one of the hardest things in my life. I just want to assure you there is hope and your body will catch up to you.

Girls who are underweight do tend to have that boyish figure.. Look at the girls on the runway... They are all skinny, but unless they have implants, they have the body of a 10 year old boy. The little extra weight will put on some curves.
It's amazing what 10 pounds would do. I know that you're in recovery, and it's going to be super hard to fathem gaining 10 pounds, but it's really worth it to achieve a more feminine figure.. and healthier too. Your boobs and hips are there, you've just deprived your body from them, that's all. They arnt gone forever.
Good luck with your recovery. :-)

first let me just say congrats on your recovery, hang in there and keep strong.

you are going to have to be at a healthy weight before your body will produce the hormones it needs to work like a "woman".
even once you get at a normal weight it still might take up to a year to start working properly. if you are planning on having children one day you really need to get to a good healthy weight. best of luck, and God bless!

That is great that you have recovered from your eating disorder! I too am in the recovering stages from an eating disorder, I never stopped eating all together but limited what I ate, therefore I lost a lot of weight and didn't realize it until family members confronted me.  As a result, I made every effort to get healthy again and have gained almost 15 pounds in the past 6 months.
I also recently went off the pill (2 months ago) so my husband and I can also start having children (once I gain back the weight of course that I need in order to do so).  However, I am still on the edge of the range of being underweight therefore I am not having periods regularly yet.  I have been doing everything I can to gain the weight quickly -I am almost 105 pounds and 5'3" (29 yrs old) however, how much weight did you need to gain in order for everything to be back to normal?  My range for height says 104-141 pds--so since I am above that starting range--wouldn't things start working soon? Or is there something else I should be doing?
