Elevated D Dimer

Hello,  I am a 26 year old female with three healthy daughters.  I went to the ER on Monday night with chest pain and tightness that had been going on for about three weeks.  The pain goes into my right shoulder and arm too.  The only test that came back bad was a D Dimer; which was 2.03.  The test said anything above 1.1 was high, so they did a CT of my lungs to look for a clot.  No Clot was apparent.  Now, they are ordering an ultrasound of my heart and every blood test known to man.  I am VERY VERY fatigued, sore, kidneys hurt, chest tight, and right harm hurts.

Does an elevated D Dimer always mean something is wrong?

I dont have an infection, not pregnant, no known clots or pain in legs, etc...what else could cause the elevated levels?

I am very worried about cancer and heart disease, as they both run in my family.  But, I am only 26.... Please help if you have any advise!

I would love to hear any answers to your question. I am a 40 year old woman who has dealt with this problem for about 2 months. My d-dimer has not dropped below 7.40 the last 2 months. It has been as high as 15.03.. I am at my wits end...

Did you ever find out why your d-diner was so elevated? Mine is at 799 and I’m worried sick about having an undiagnosed cancer.

Hello my name is Casey and I am 27year old female. I have a DDimer level over 4.1 and rising. I have had a CTA, chest X-ray, venous duplex testing, ECG and other testing. I go for a VQ scan Friday. I am having continued shortness of breath, chest pain, weight loss , and no answers, no blood clot to be found. Waiting to see a cardiologist and hematologist at our new local cancer center. Any ideas what could cause this?? I'm very concerned and been off work struggling with this over a month. Recommended I go out of state to OSU or PA to speciality hospital for further care :( very worried!

I am a 30 year old female with the same symptoms.  Just left ER they said my d dimer was elevated.  Took all other tests and nothing was wrong.  I have had other blood tests run and they said my blood was thick too much iron.  I did read something saying it might be DIC so when I go back to the dr.  I will ask about that.  If you find out anymore please post I will.  Thanks!

I have exactly the same symptoms as yourself. I am waiting on the results of CT scan but they dont think I have a clot anymore. I'm really worried as they don't seem to know what is wrong with me! Look forward to hearing from you. Gareth
