Evaporated line on preg. test

by kruss, Oct 02, 2006 12:00AM
Question for my friend:

She just took a test about an hour ago and called me freaking out. She said that she had a Publix brand preg. test. She said that it was the kind that if postive it should look like + - and if neg. it should be - -. Anyway the test looked neg. in the first 30 seconds and than a noticeable white line was going through the other line making it look like a + . Is this just an evaporated line or is it possible a positive. She said that she had been experiencing tingly soreness in her breasts, backache, and feeling like her period was going to start (heaviness in abdomin (abdomen) and ackiness) but then it went away and no period. Any thoughts?

What color are the lines supposed to be?  You said the line was white.  I assume it was supposed to be blue or pink.  If the line has no color than it sounds like a defective test.  Have her wait 2 days and test again with a different brand of test.  If this test was a positive, then in two days it a positive will be definitely visible.

Good luck to her!

She needs to retest for sure....a positive can take several minutes to show up, and I have never had a false positive.  I highly recommend FIRST RESPONSE.  She should wait 2 days, and retest.  I had the same thing happen to me (a questionable positive) with my 3rd pregnancy.  I retested a few hours later, and got an obvious positive.

She said that the lines where supposed to be pink that half of the + was pink and the other half of the positive was a white line that she could definitly see.

If it was partially pink then it is more then likely a positive.  She's just very early in the pregnancy.  If it were me, I'd get another test and test today.  Can't hurt.  Dollar store has them.  I never used Publix brand when I lived in Florida so I don't know how hight the HCG levels need to be to get a positive on those.  Answer brand tests low and those are inexpensive.  Walmart sells them for something like $7.00 for two tests.

she should re-test.  Most HPT's 9to my knowledge anyway) can be read withing 10 - 15 minutes.  If it was negative in the first 30 seconds and became a postive...it might be positve.  If the positive sign appeared after 10 minutes or so...it is probably an evaporation line.  Best of luck to her

She's probably just seeing the perforation in the window that makes the + sign. If that's the case, it's negative.

I don't know if I made sense earlier. She said that the one line of the postive was pink and the other line that would make the positive it was white, no hint of pink. it kind of looked like an evaporated line but it was noticeable within a minute of testing. does this make sense :)

i wouldnt even go by that test. tell her to buy another because just last month i took an EPT and it was positive within 1 minute and i was not pregnant at all. they did an ultrasound at six weeks and they said it looked like i was going to have a priod sure enough i did. or at least the docs say i wasnt pregnant and i didnt have any signs of miscarriage because there was no bleeding but i did have constant cramping. so i would re test. i wish her the best. keep us updated.
