Close to two months ago I had unprotected sex with a new partner and almost immediately after I started experiencing itching and slight burning with urination. I went to the doctor and was tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and a UTI which all came back negative. The doctor then did a pelvic exam and ruled out trich based on sight alone but I did test positive for BV and I was prescribed metronidazole. This cleared up the infection and I didn’t see that partner for a while. 2 weeks ago we met up again and had unprotected sex, but neither of us slept with anyone else in between. Almost immediately after, the symptoms returned and so I assumed it was BV again and went back to the dr. Because the symptoms were the same, they just had me self swab and only tested for yeast and BV. This time, both tests came back negative. Is it possible the BV test is a false negative because my symptoms are exactly the same as they were before and started at exactly the same time (about 12 hours after sex with this partner). If it isn’t a false negative, what else could it be? I really do not think it is an std.
