Getting pregnant during your period

Me and my girlfriend had sex two days after her period started on a night she wasn't flowing bad, the condom broke and i came inside her. Her periods last longer than a week normally and if it last for more than 7 is there a chance for her to get pregnant?

I agree with JoAnnaRF.  She is probably NOT pregnant but if you are both worried take a test to find out.  The sooner you have a definitive answer the sooner you can stop worrying.  Also, in the slight chance she did get pregnant, it's better to know sooner not later.  If she's that nervous about testing, tell her to leave the room while you wait for the results.  It only takes a couple of minutes.

Bring her a test, and explain to her like you did to us that you are really scared. That not knowing is just postponing the inevitable. She can't just ignore it and it will go away. I seriously doubt that she is pregnant, and maybe you can tell her that you have done some research and that the chances are very small. This will reassure her. She will also feel better to KNOW one way or the other. Being there for her is the best thing you can do, but she needs to understand that this is also affecting your life, not just hers. All of this worry can be remedied with a 5 minute test. Just be honest with her and kind, she will understand and hopefully go ahead and get it over with. Let us know.

I understand BC pills problems!  Can't takek them either.  Yes, most women only ovulate once during each cycle.  (If a woman ovulates more than once per cycle and gets pregnant she has a good chance of having twins!)  To answer your question about how to know when she's ovulating, well, it's going to be pretty tricky since her periods are irregular.  Most people say you ovulate 14 days after your period starts. The thing is, this is only true for women who get their period every 28 days.  I have a 30-35 day cycle so I ovulate anywhere between days 16-23.  Other signs to look for are her cervical mucus.  (Sorry to be gross.) If she starts noticing that her cervical mucus is kind of clear and slippery she's probably close to ovulation.  Is she's really interested she could start BBT charting (checking temp first thing in am), but this can be a real nucance. It also may not do any good if her periods are extremely irregular.

She already went to the gyno and the pills she used made her bloated and break out so shes trying something new, but can you only ovulate once in your cycle, and is it typically in the middle of your cycle?

Not necessarily. Maybe she should go see a GYN about regulating her periods. It is usually done with Birth Control pills and that would take care of two problems at once.

If her periods are really far apart does that mean that she will ovulate later also?

She may need a better means of BC than a condom alone.  I always tell folks they should use contraceptive foam or jelly WITH a condom--that way if there is a break she is better protected.

Is the pill not an option for her?  There are lots of different kinds and formulations--so even if she has had problems with one type, there might be another she could try.

She can take a test 3 or 4 weeks after the time you guys had your little "accident" This should give you a conclusive result. And if she starts before the test then you should stop worrying.
Pretty cool of you to be there for her and even go through the trouble of looking for answers on the board. Keep it up!

Her peiods are irregular so we don't know when the next one will be. it could be next week or 3 months from now, how do you know when you ovulate?

From this point, you and your girlfriend should plan to take a home pregnancy test if her next period is late.

It is possible to get pg, b/c as the above thread says, sperm can live inside for quite a while.  Honestly, I don't think she'll get pg, but it is possible.  So, if she's late for her next period then take a pg test.  They only cost about $8-$15 depending on the brand.  But she should try to wait until the day she misses her period, otherwise it might be too soon and this could give a false negative.

The length of her period doesn't matter.  It has to do with when she ovulates.  Most women ovulate about 14 days after their period begins, not when it stops.  She probably did not get pregnant unless her periods tend to come close together (less than 28 days apart).  Just FYI: sperm can live inside her for up to five days meaning she can get pregnant before she's ovulated.  If you want to be extra careful make sure she knows her cycle really well and use extra protection starting 5 days before she ovulates and up to 2 days after.
