HPV vaccine

Hi, Doctor

I got my first HPV vaccine shot yesterday.  I am supposed to get a total of 3 shots over a 6-month period.  However, I got to know from some website that this vaccine, which was approved by FDA last June, may have some potential long-term side-effects.  So, I am considering not getting the other two shots.  Do you think this will significantly reduce the risk related to the potential side-effects? Thanks!

i am not a doctor but i have not heard of any long term or bad side effects.if i were getting the vaccination i would get all three shots.can you tell me what you read and where you read it?

I just googled it using the key words" hpv vaccine potential side effect".

For example, from http://hpv.emedtv.com/hpv-vaccine/hpv-vaccine-side-effects-p2.html, some of the rare HPV vaccine side effects include:
1. headache 2. Gastroenteritis, 3. Appendicitis 4. Pelvic inflammatory disease 5. Asthma.   For these side effects, it is difficult to tell whether the side effect is caused by the HPV vaccine or something else.

I wouldn't bother. Not only are the long term effects unknown and potentially harmful, but the vaccine itself is a money making scam. If you read the government's fact sheet about HPV at http://www.cdc.gov/std/HPV/STDFact-HPV.htm you can see that MOST women have had or will have it and MOST women clear it from their bodies within two years. The vaccine only protects against 4 out of over 100 HPV strains. Plus, even if you do get HPV and you are in the very small minority that keeps it, the chances of developing cancer due to it are very, very slim. If you have regular Pap smears, the cancer is almost 100% curable when caught on time. There are over 300 million people in the US- about 150 million women and less than 4000 women will die from cervical cancer in a year. The chances are equal to 1 out of 50,000. Of those women, not all of them got it from HPV and almost all of their cancer and subsequent deaths could have been prevented by regular exams. So, if you take that into consideration, the chances of dying from cervical cancer due to HPV are far less than 1 in 50,000. They aren't even statistically significant.

Most of the childhood vaccines we get such as measles and rubella are important because they were killing a LOT of people, but HPV isn't killing many at all.
HPV has been around for a long time; the only reason it is suddenly in the news all the time as a possible cause of cancer is because the med companies want to use scare tactics to make people get their VERY PROFITABLE vaccine. Since the chances of dying from HPV are so incredibly rare, I feel sorry for anyone who falls for the hype, because really, you are just making very rich people richer.

i got all 3 shots.. but you know now that you brought it to my attention, i actually have a doctors appointment next week because lately i have had a migraine EVERY day for a week now, its so bad that it actually made me sick to my stomach and i threw up 3 times in one day and i had to all out of work one day for them.. wonder if it has a relevance?

i am worried about penile cancer and spreading hpv to women.hpv has been shown to cause penile and cervical cancers.i want the vaccination as soon as possible.

I have HPV and getting the vaccine is a smart idea. The HPV vaccine wasn't available when i contracted the std. Also yes your body can heal itself within two years but that only means that it is dormant and not active at that moment.  Now with HPV i have to worry about getting pap's every three months, doing biopsy's on my cervix, and worrying about maybe future treatments , possible cervical cancer, and future sexual partners and the women they might infect because their are no tests for HPV in men and condoms don't always protect people from HPV.

Hello there,
I'm going to get these three shots, my first one very soon!
I HATE shots! && i was willing to get this because i was told it's to PREVENT this cancer!
But after reading this i'm scared to get it! Especially after hearing everybodies side affects.
It only last 3 years. And i've been told 4 girls have died from it.
This product has only been out a year. Alot of products come out && are FDA approved then things happen down the road && they get taken off. Is this going to happen with this? Is this a good ideal for me to get this set of shots so soon? Or should i wait it out a few years && see what goes on with the product.
